Jeffery Hatrick: I think the most important thing
for any sommelier whether it be wine, tea or other wise is that you have
a passion for it.
[Music]
Rick: So we got rained out of hot air ballooning but fortunately we
were staying at a pretty nice hotel where we happened to find the touring
cast of Mary Poppins entertaining guests at an afternoon tea.
[music]
Rick: I wanted to interview one of the cast members after the performance.
So, I sat down with Jeffery Hatrick who played the role of Bert. It turns
out that Jeffery was not a cast member at all. He happened to be the tea
sommelier for the Ritz Carlton. I don't even know even know what a tea
sommelier is, so I asked Jefferey.
Jeffery: Much of what I do is specialize in the English Style of
afternoon tea with the finger sandwiches and the scones and the desserts.
We serve our traditional tea four days a week and then usually once a month
I have something themed, Father's Day weekend we do father daughter tea or
at the holidays we do our teddy bear tea. But, the Mary Poppins tea today
was extraordinary. They call it a Practically Perfect Tea Party with Mary
Poppins because in the show they reference this practically perfect tea
party.
Rick: Jeffery's passion for tea only rivals Sandy's passion for cookies so
I thought we have got to get these two together.
Sandi: Being a sommelier and after you explained it to us about tea,
I'm known for my cookies or being around cookies and my love of cookies, I
want to be the first official cookies sommelier.
Jeffery: You can't fake caring about something as nuanced as wine or tea
or in this case cookies, so I think as long as you start with that from
your heart you can be the perfect cookie sommelier.
Sandi: And that's the most letters that I get from people who watch
Midlife Roadtrip Show are about the cookies.
Jeffery: Well, I think we should taste one then.
Sandi: I think we should.
Jeffery: And then we'll piant the picture.
Sandi: Cheers.
Jeffery: Cheers.
That is a nice experience.
Sandi: You know, we have a saying at the Midlife Roadtrip and it's we
have taken moaning out of the bedroom and put it in the kitchen where it
belongs.
Jeffery: I think that is the perfect place to be moaning. This is
wonderful. I think cookie sommelier. I hereby certify you.
Sandi: Thank you! Thank you!
Jeffery: You're welcome.
Rick: I am so happy for Sandy. I am glad she was named the world's first
cookie sommelier but I am really worried that that magazine cover is going
to go
to her head.
