Hi, I'm Amy, I work at Snagajob and today we're going to talk about how to find a job.
Specifically we're talking about how to avoid the number one error that drives hiring
managers and recruiters nuts
and that is typos on resumes and applications.
I'm not spotting of some bulleted list we made up somewhere.
This is actually how I edit my own resume and applications when I'm looking for a job
and I found it works really well. First, run spellcheck.
Fix any errors that show up. This is pretty simple and doesn't take very much time.
Second, find a friend who's really good with words.
And have them look at your resume or application. If you've got more than one friend that's
got kind of a way with language or is really good at catching errors, have them all look at it and give
suggestions. Honestly, the more eyes there are on your resume, the more likely it is that
somebody will catch a mistake where you mistyped your email address or used the wrong phone number.
And lastly, read it aloud.
I know that sounds a little weird but when you read aloud you're much more likely
to catch your own mistakes. Once you've got that document just the way you want it
save your resume and then use it to copy and paste to the other
formats. If you've already got a solid version of your resume, you can
use it in other places and it's a lot faster and you'll know that
you are making typos or errors because you're copying and pasting from a
document. What if the job has absolutely nothing to do with spelling? Even if
the job has nothing to do with spelling, take the time to submit a well
crafted spell check resume. It shows the employer that you're serious about the
job and that you really want to get hired. Thanks for listening and I hope
