DEANNA OLSON: Can you help me understand a little bit more about why multi-vitamins and
the accurate type, and kind, and dosage of multi-vitamins, are so important for the gluten-free
community?
>> SUSAN STARETORP: It has been shown in studies that people that have Celiac Disease, even
1o-years after going gluten-free, still have issues with nutrition because there bodies
just can't take in what they need. And, often they don't know what combination is right,
which is where Dr. Doherty stepped in. Dr. Doherty came up with this formulation because
she also has Celiac Disease and she is a Naturopathic doctor. So she, in her search to try to find
vitamins that would make her feel better and be optimal for her malabsorption, which is
often the case with people with Celiac ... it took her four years and going through
all her patients to try to figure out the best formulation and have it be gluten-free,
corn-free, dairy-free ... you know, a lot of issues that people have. So she worked
really *** it and it is a great product.
>> DEANNA OLSON: Can we grab the book and you can tell me a little bit about the book
also?
>> SUSAN STARETORP: This just came out, it is written by Melinda Dennis and Dr. Daniel
Leffler, and they are at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Celiac Disease Center. Melinda
approached Dr. Doherty because she is an expert as well as she has Celiac Disease, and she
has the vitamins. They have written together the chapter on supplementation. Dr. Doherty
is really wonderful about explaining and knowing why you have to supplement, what you should
be supplementing. So they wrote this book and she is in chapter 14. So this is available
now, it just came out in April and I think if you go to the website, which is called
RealLifeWithCeliacDisease.com, you can order it. And eventually it will be, I'm sure, on
Amazon and some other places and available there. So it is a real honor for her to do
this, and she felt real passionate about it.
>> DEANNA OLSON: And what about the vitamins. Where can we buy the vitamins?
>> SUSAN STARETORP: Right now the vitamins can be found at glutenfreevitamins.com, which
is our website. Eventually, we would like to have it in distributorship, but for now
that is where you order it. There are monthly specials if you sign up for the news letter,
they change it all the time. She has recipes, she has tips, she has links to articles that
she writes, and so it is a real good resource for people that have Celiac Disease.
