>> Nadja Kehler Curth: The work that I'm doing here at Tikos will help document the health
status of the children here at Tiko school.
[Music]
My name is Nadja, I'm 28 years old, and I come from Denmark; Copenhagen, Denmark.
[Title: Life at Tikondane]
I have a background in public health science.
I have been conducting a survey, a small survey, on 200 students.
I went to the classrooms, I introduced myself to the students, told them about the study,
and took ten of them at a time to the veranda, and measured their height and weight,
and asked them some simple questions
about their living conditions in general; like "Do you have a chair at home?"
or "Do you have a toilet?"
I was typing directly into the Excel sheet while measuring and asking the questions.
It will document the health status of a representative sample of the Tiko children.

>> Nadja: From my experience working here at Tikos, I have learned that
everyone is affected by *** in some way.
Either themselves, or within their family, or within their community.
I have been helping Christine, the *** counsellor, preparing and making some
*** educational material for the sixth graders and seventh graders.
Altogether, we have made around thirteen/fourteen lessons, going from *** education
all the way to *** education.
We have covered different subjects such as stigma, discrimination, but also
'what is ***/AIDS?',
and how is it transmitted, 'how can one prevent from contracting ***/AIDS?'.
Christine, she is teaching about ***/AIDS, she is also testing,
and most importantly, I would say, counselling.

>> Nadja: The Tiko crew come here everyday, to learn, and to work,
and to be a part of the Tiko family, Tiko community.

I had my two main projects that I have been working on here at Tikos,
but I have also been working in the garden with Benson, the garden supervisor,
and some of the other volunteers, and I've enjoyed it very, very much.

It might sound like a cliché, but you get to see some of the Zambian culture from the inside,
and you get to know people very well; they are very welcoming, and very open
and I have just loved being here. I really felt like a part of Tiko...
I'm still feeling like a part of Tiko.
