Is it good to nap before a test? I’ve heard everything from it helping information retention
to hurting your test performance.
Napping after studying helps information retention, as long as you aren’t napping after an over-nighter
before going to the test.
What about napping before the test?
A good night’s sleep before the test will do more than taking a nap before the test.
And you better be careful not to sleep through the exam time.
Oh, I am.
Napping a few hours before a test if you are tired will improve your performance. They’ve
found that being tired impairs your performance as much as having a beer, with a serious lack
of sleep being as bad or worse than being ***.
I remember a guy who came in ***, complained that he didn’t know there was a test and
took it. He got a perfect score, but he wasn’t part of the class.
That is the exception to the rule. And if he’d been in his right mind, he wouldn’t
have wandered into the wrong class.
I wonder which one he was supposed to be in.
Napping before you study won’t increase information retention unless you were already
tired. Napping after studying can increase information retention, but it doesn’t replace
studying more than one night in a row.
I’ve heard that napping is as good for your performance as caffeine.
A short afternoon nap increases alertness and mental function more than a caffeine jolt.
And caffeine can’t compensate for sleep deprivation.
And the nap is much cheaper than a Starbucks latte.
It should be free, because you don't need one of those power nap chairs to sleep. And
the best time for an adult to nap is after lunch.
Ah, the siesta. That’s a tradition in Spanish countries.
Because of the siesta, they also tend to work later into the evening.
You can’t have everything.
