JACOB SOBOROFF: Hey, it's Jacob.
Today we've got extreme pogo, a ghost who loves Brits.
DEAN DOBBS: There is an apparition
from the afterlife right here in front of me.
JACOB SOBOROFF: And skateboarding
through Super Mario.
Butter your popcorn.
This is "YouTube Nation."
[THEME MUSIC]
JACOB SOBOROFF: Everybody's heard of the Sundance Film
Festival.
Lucky for us, filmmaker Casey Neistat checked in with us
from Park City.
CASEY NEISTAT: YouTube this year is presenting the Sundance Film
Festival Shorts Program.
All of the films from the program are on YouTube.
Check them out, and the movie with the most views
will win the YouTube Audience Award.
JACOB SOBOROFF: Hey, thanks, Casey.
There's all kinds of stuff.
From this really artistic short film about a man
losing his sight, to some high-energy music driven
animations, and even this comedy about dealing with a stolen
car.
MALE SPEAKER 2: Every time I call the harbor police,
guy was like, yo, I'm not on duty right now.
I said, yo, you got to be [BLEEP] kidding me.
JACOB SOBOROFF: Voting ends on Friday.
And the winner's going to be announced right there
at Sundance on Saturday.
Hello, Lizzie.
LIZZIE: Hi, Jacob.
JACOB SOBOROFF: This next video's not traditionally
up Lizzie's alley, but it is pretty amazing.
LIZZIE: Yeah, it's awesome but it's not.
JACOB SOBOROFF: You did fight for it
though in the pitch meeting, I got to say.
LIZZIE: I wouldn't say that I fought--
JACOB SOBOROFF: It's extreme--
LIZZIE: --for it.
JACOB SOBOROFF: --pogoing.
[MUSIC - BROKEN OCEAN, "BRONZE RADIO RETURN"]
LIZZIE: These guys are just so persistent,
and they're super dedicated to extreme pogo,
it just takes the video to a whole other level.
MALE SPEAKER 3: Slid on my shoulder.
I landed on my back.
Hit my head.
MALE SPEAKER 4: Sometimes you just got
to be ready to get hurt.
JACOB SOBOROFF: Hands down, the most creative,
original tourism video I've ever seen.
LIZZIE: Yeah, and also super effective.
I dare anybody to find me a better one.
ALEX: This is the closest I've ever
felt to being in a museum while still sitting at my desk.
Artist Rino Stefano Tagliafierro animated 117 classic works
to create this.
[CLASSICAL MUSIC]
ALEX: I've see these paintings before, but adding the movement
made me really rethink their meaning.
I was not expecting to feel so many emotions with this.
CARLY: I've never seen a ghost before, but if I ever do,
I hope the experience is as enjoyable as this.
"Dead Girl" is the latest from Jack Howard and Dean Dobbs
who have been making videos together
for the past five years.
DEAN DOBBS: What's a ghost?
JACK HOWARD: Oh, wow.
OK, a ghost is like a see-through, transparent-y
thing.
DEAN DOBBS: Oh.
Well, it's that then.
CARLY: I'm still really looking forward
to seeing my first ghost, as long as it's not my grandma.
She'd want to know why I'm not married yet,
and that's just going to be an awkward discussion
for everyone.
JACOB SOBOROFF: Above all else, One Direction's
recognized for their single direction-- it's in their name.
Miche Braden just made them take a sharp right.
"Postmodern Jukebox" latest video brings a New Orleans spin
to the boys' massive hit.
[MUSIC - MICHE BRADEN, "STORY OF MY LIFE"]
JACOB SOBOROFF: Braden's a protege of Motown
legends The Funk Brothers, and she nailed this in one take.
These guys have been around for a while,
but they really picked up steam last year
with almost 30 million view to celebrate their release's epic
mash-up of last year's top hits.
[POP MUSIC]
JACOB SOBOROFF: Go right now to their channel.
They have so many fantastic covers,
including a seven-foot clown that sings "Royals," people.
You know that feeling when you hit your head real hard,
you eat some mushrooms, and then you
find yourself living in Super Mario world?
Filmmaker Jordan Fountain does.
JORDAN FOUNTAIN: Hey, Jacob.
My name is Jordan Fountain, and I
submitted a video called "Mushroom Power Skateboarding."
It's about a skateboarder who hits his head
and is transported into the Mushroom Kingdom.
[MARIO BROTHERS MUSIC]
JACOB SOBOROFF: Thank you, Jordan.
This guy's 20 years old, and he's almost
got 100 videos under his belt.
We want you on the show.
Record yourself talking about an awesome video,
and post it with the hashtag #youtubenation.
