Firefighters attacked by marauding macaques
On July 26 a female Formosan macaque and her baby were killed on Dongshan Road in Taipei's Yangming Mountain National Park.
The two macaques were run over and killed by a passing motorist.
Who then reported the incident.
Later, when firefighters arrived at the scene to take clear up the dead animals
around 30 to 40 macaques suddenly appeared out of the woods
screaming and throwing rocks to try and stop the firefighters from nearing the corpses.
There were probably around 30 to 40 macaques in total.
That many? Yes, Yes, yes.
A firefighter spokesman said the macaques probably didn't realize the mother and baby were dead
and were just defending their fellow monkeys from attack in a show of strength.
The firefighters had to scare the monkeys away
before clearing away the two carcasses
before taking them away for disposal at the incinerator.
