Doors and windows are available in countless number of sizes, shapes and operation types.
The highly parametric ArchiCAD library parts support the modeling and documentation
of the most frequently used commercial and residential doors and windows.
Different parameter combinations allows you to precisely define
not just the object's main geometry but also its individual components like frames,
mullions, sashes and different accessories
such as shades,
masonry arches
or thresholds.
To illustrate the power and versatility of ArchiCAD GDL technology,
we placed the very same window object
with different parameter settings.
Please note the accuracy of the object representation in floor plan, section
and 3D views.
Furthermore the elements are scale sensitive, automatically adjusting
to the currently used scale.
As a rule of thumb ArchiCAD elements can cover a much wider range of object types
than the preview picture suggests.
Start creating new doors and windows by selecting a library part,
which is the most similar to what you need,
and then place it
into the required wall.
After that select it
and adjust the various parameters as needed.
Check the result on floor plan, in 3D and section views.
For future use you can save these parameter combinations as Favorites.
ArchiCAD Doors and Windows are very flexible and can be edited at any stages
of the design with graphical methods
or with numerical input
in the parameter fields.
To edit Doors and Windows with parameters select them and change their parameters
like physical dimensions, floor plan representation, material etc. in the
Doors and Windows Setting Dialog or in the Info Box.
ArchiCAD also provides intuitive graphical editing capabilities
with, which you modify, the Doors and Windows' main geometry.
Graphical editing is available in floor plan, section, elevation as well as in
3D perspective and axonometric views.
Simply select the Doors and Windows and click on its
different points.
The Pet Palette appears and you can choose from many editing options
including height,
width or orientation. The content of Pet palette is context sensitive,
different options are available in floor plan
section
and 3D perspective views.
Windows and doors also feature so-called editable hotspots.
These custom points are marked with magenta color
allowing you to perform various modifications on the elements.
For instance you can open or close window sashes or relocate mullions with them.
All you have to do is select the element,
keep the mouse pressed over the magenta hotspot,
choose the
move node option from the Pet Palette
and move the cursor until you get the desired result.
Instant visual feedback assists you during editing.
Similar to other ArchiCAD elements doors and windows can be displayed according to
various local architectural standards.
Floor plan and section representation parameters are available in the Floor plan
and section tab page of the Doors and Windows-setting dialog.
Here you define the pens,
fills and other attributes of Doors and Windows components
in different 2D views.
Furthermore you can precisely set how Doors and Windows should be displayed
in slanted walls.
The previous settings were applied to individual door
and window elements
however there are some general display options,
which affect all the doors and windows in a particular view:
Model View Options, Partial Structure Display
and Renovation settings can be saved with each view, allowing you
to show your Doors and Windows as needed along the entire lifecycle of the project.
Let see how the doors and windows are displayed with different views.
