Today's video is all about Wi-Fi Direct.
So basically Wi-Fi direct allows Wi-Fi devices to connect to each other
without the need for a wireless access point. Okay, so let's get started.
So if you go to your Settings, straight away, at the top here, you'll see "wireless and networks
and Wi-Fi".
Now depending on what Android device you have, your Wi-Fi direct will be found
a little differently, however it does tend to be within your Wi-Fi settings. Now as I'm
demonstrating on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2,
Wi-Fi direct on this device is found by clicking on Wi-Fi
and it's right at the bottom here. Okay, so once you click
on Wi-Fi Direct this is the screen that will come up.
So, Wi-Fi Direct is basically like Bluetooth but much
faster and you can connect to supported devices from much further distances than
you could with Bluetooth.
Now, you can change the name of your device by clicking on the Options button
and there we have. it "rename device". So if you just rename it
I'll do that now as well: Android
Simplified (now called Android Top Tips)
There we are. If you click on done, and then click on OK.
There we go. Now your new device
name will show up at the top here. So you can click on "Scan"
right here at the bottom to see a
list of available devices near you. Now you can connect to printers, cameras, laptops
and scanners
to name but a few the devices, as long as they support Wi-Fi direct. Now you can also
connect to more than one device, which means, for instance, you can share files
or videos
to multiple phones that also support the feature
and that's just by clicking on multi- connect here. When you do that, it will
say "only devices which support multi connect are
shown". So your not wasting your time trying to connect to
multiple devices that don't support the feature. So now I'm going to show you how to
connect two devices, using my Nexus phone.
Now I've turned Wi-Fi Direct on, on the Nexus already, so as you can see, it shows up
here. You can see Wi-Fi Direct at the top.
You can see there Android Simplified. So it's already searched for and found my
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 device.
As you can see here, that my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has already found my Nexus
device.
So to pair the two together, if you just click on the device
it will start connecting and pairing the two
up. Now before it does this, it will ask you to verify that you do
in fact want the two devices to pair. So if you just click on
accept. Okay, like so,
and then after a couple of seconds, you will see that the two devices will connect
and it will show that, by changing from "connecting" to "connected"
as so, and that's all you really need to do to connect the two devices.
Now all I've done here, is I've gone on to my Samsung Galaxy Note 2
gallery and I've decided this is the file that I want to share with my Nexus phone
via Wi-Fi direct. So, the way to do this
is by clicking on the Share Option above, which is that icon right there,
and now, it brings up a list of different ways in which I can share the media
file, but I want to do by Wi-Fi direct, which is here.
So, if I just click on there, it will show me that I'm already paired up with my Nexus phone
So if I just check the box and click on done
and within
a few seconds, it will send the file through to my Nexus device
and it's basically that simple, That's the end of episode 2,
I hope you enjoyed it. If you have any questions or would like me to review an app
or explain any features or settings on your mobile device,
