Welcome to Stanford Alumni Email powered by Google.
To log in to your account,
simply navigate to the Stanford Alumni Association homepage.
You may remember us at www.stanfordalumni.org
But what you may not know is we have a new home.
alumni.stanford.edu
Once you arrive, go ahead and click on the Check Email button on the top.
Log in as you've always done...
And here you are:
On your Stanford Alumni Email homepage.
You can access it on the go:
Mobile device, tablet, desktop -- it's up to you.
Ready to get to know your new email?
Let's get started.
With the move to Google,
your mailbox will have 25GB of storage.
That's a lot of space to move around in!
Another great thing about the move: All your messages and contacts
will be preserved.
Your folders will even transfer over. One thing to know:
In Google, folders are called "labels."
You can assign colors to each, and begin organizing your inbox effectively.
Let's demonstrate...
"Professional networking"
That's definitely a priority.
Hmmm. "Going to Reunion..."
I definitely want to follow up.
Once you've labeled your messages, it's easy to see what's what...
right here in your inbox.
To see messages sorted by label, simply click on the color.
That's it. It's as easy as that.
With your new Stanford Alumni Email
you have many customization options powered by Google.
For example you can try on a new inbox view.
There's "Classic," which is the tried and true way.
Important messages first
Unread first
and so on.
Additionally, Google Mail groups all replies with the original message to create a single
conversation (or thread) right in your inbox.
Here's an example:
My friend J and I have been talking about going to Reunion.
Here's his first message.
Here's my reply.
And here's what he had to say.
I'm thinking I'm going to let him know that I'm definitely going to go.
That's it. You can see the entire thread of the conversation right here.
You don't have to search your entire inbox looking for what "he said, she said."
Contacts.
Similar to an online address book, the contact manager at Google Mail gives you easy access
to the people you want to reach.
All your email contacts are stored here.
To edit a contact, simply click. That's it.
That will be automatically stored.
All contacts that you currently have stored in your Stanford email box will be
migrated to Gmail when me make the move.
Another great feature of your Alumni Email
is the google-powered search.
Simply enter a word or phrase that you're looking for in an email.
Click Search.
And it'll turn up all the messages in your mailbox that contain that word or phrase.
It's the same thing that you would do if you're on the web and using a Google search.
Ready to completely customize your experience?
Head over to your settings.
Click on your email address in the upper right.
Click Account Settings
and Gmail Settings.
In your settings section
You may want to
Turn your Conversation view off. This means the messages in your inbox will only be
organized by date
(rather than conversation).
You can also manage Labels,
Account Settings,
set up Filters,
and manage your Forwarding and desktop-access settings.
That's all for now.
We hope you enjoy your new Stanford Alumni Email powered by Google.
...coming in September.
