This is the Gold Star ship on fire in the Mediterranean. Burning away on board is 30
tonnes of hash. It was set alight by the nine crew members who saw boats from the Guardia
di Finanza and the Italian police who had been given permission to board by the country's
central anti-drugs agency. The nine man crew are nationals of Syria and Egypt but the boat
itself was registered in Tanzania. There's no word yet on the origins of the hash. They
were all picked up after the authorities decided that their lives were at risk and then they
were detained. Teams were then called in to distinguish the fire which was burning away
about 30 miles north of Malta and is now waiting there to be recovered.
