Most people don't think of PT boats in Europe together, but 305 ends up in combat. It's
oddly enough the Japanese and the Germans both related to similar tactics as the war
progressed. We were so good at sinking their ships or in Europe disrupting supply lines,
destroying trains and taking out truck convoys that in Europe they built what they called
Flax lighters. They would take a heavy river barge or an ocean going barge and they would
armor it with concrete and fill it up with all kinds of automatic weapons 20mm, 40mm
and 88's.They would run from port to port down the coast of Italy with supplies. In
Italy by the end of the war the Germans were reduced to moving artillery shells with ox
carts. Our World War II veterans are getting pretty
old but so many people who come and volunteer on those and other projects are veterans of
our military service. I think it's important to them that the service of World War II be
remembered.
