Hello and Welcome! I think don't much mistaken if I say that in the first half of the 19th century, with the beginning of revolvers mass production, began an era of multiply short firearms.
Since then design of the revolver hasn't undergone radical changes very much, and it remains essentially the same: a reliable and easy to handle individual weapons.
The main advantages of a revolver is its quick ready to fire, the first shot minimal time, high reliability, simplicity of design and durability.
But the development of weapons isn't standing still, and the requirements for personal weapons, was beyond the power for "old and good" revolver. Larger size and weight, low charge during prolonged reload time and low rapidity of fire compared to the automatic pistols - these and other disadvantages of the revolvers slipped from first roles and forced him give way to the pistols.
But revolvers is also staying product of art weapons and has a huge following around the world.
Today Guns-Review.com together with Shooting Sports Club IBIS presents an overview of the Czech Republic production revolver ALFA Para 9241 Classic.
Czech armorers quite a long time won the respect in the world arms market. Revolvers ALFA produced one of the largest Czech arms companies ALFA Proj, which exports its products under the brand names "ALFA" and "HOLEK" and produces about 25,000 weapons per year.
The main feature of the ALFA models is the ability to use a variety of ammo: .357 Magnum caliber cartridges and pistol cartridge 9?19 mm Parabellum (or 9?19 mm Luger). Revolver ALFA Para 9241 was presented in 2009 and is designed for civilian market and sports shooters. This revolver, as you have already understood from its name, is designed for use pistol cartridge 9 ? 19 mm Parabellum.
The revolver supplied in a plastic case, the package includes:
- A device for fast loading
- Two clips for faster loading pistol cartridges
- Tube brushes for barrel cleaning of a variety of materials
- Revolver
- Target test shooting from the manufacturer - User's Guide
The main technical characteristics of the revolver: - Overall length: 243mm - Height: 136mm - Width: 37,3 mm - Barrel length: 103mm - Weight revolver (unloaded): 995gr. - Weight revolver (loaded): 1069gr.
The lockwork of ALFA Para Classic Double Action (DA), hammer type with open hammer location. Trigger pull when shooting DA mode, according to the manufacturer, is 4,9kg, length of trigger travel around 17mm. Trigger moving smooth and flat with no steps. When SA mode trigger pull is 1,5kg, length of trigger travel about 2mm. Trigger moving is very short and smooth
Sights ALFA Para Classic is a steel front sight with red marker and adjustable U-shaped rear sight. Adjusting the rear sight is available in vertical and horizontal plane by means of two adjusting screws.
Handle of ALFA Para Classic is a classic revolver rubber-metal handle. The models also can be equipped with a handle made from wood with non-slip processing.
Revolver in "mid-size" hand fits pretty comfortable, but I will note that for shooters with large palm grip might seem short and thin. The revolver has a pretty good weight balance, so that, despite its kilogram weight, the weight unbalance is not felt. I can't call feeling holding as ideal, but overall is not bad.
Revolvers ALFA Para series are available with a barrel length of 3, 4, and 6 inches, as indicated by the third digit of the model name, in this case 9241. The model name indicated on the left side of the frame. On the right side of the barrel jacket indicates the ammo type who must use on this model. Also, the models of this series are available with various drums.
ALFA Para model with the prefix Classic, as in our case, are produced with the classic drum for the length of the cartridge caliber .357 Magnum. Models without the prefix Classic equipped with a shortened drum and, accordingly, with slightly larger barrel length. The difference in length of the barrel is approximately 8 mm.
Besides the obvious external differences, different weights and opportunities in the short version, on the eye to determine the presence of ammo in a drum in these revolvers differences anymore.
In revolvers for use a .357 Magnum caliber cartridge chambers drum smooth. In the drums for using pistol cartridge chambers rebore for the length of cartridge case 9mm Luger/Parabellum cartridge, allowing used pistol cartridges with a clip and without it.
To unlock the drum using the tab located on the left side of the frame. Drum leans to the left, both into the left side is rotated drum for shooting. Drum capacity is 6 cartridges.
For drum loading in ALFA Para Classic you must have:
Option 1: Use a special clip for 6 cartridges. For clip loading is used special tube for 6 cartridges too.
Put clip is inserted into the drum.
Option 2: The cartridges can put directly into the drum without using the clip.
Now we turn to a shooting test and my comments about it.
I liked revolver "behavior" in shooting test. Thanks to a successful weight balance and a low-lying barrel line, recoil revolver coming closer to the middle part of the palm, and doesn't cause negative feelings.
A pleasant surprise for me was the perception and control of the trigger when shooting DA mode. Despite the fact that the revolver has a fairly long trigger movement, but due to the relatively small trigger pull, work the lockwork when speed firing is not higher than the average, as for me generally like it.
While the, maybe if I had shot more than a hundred of ammo, my opinion would be quite different.
As for the accuracy of fire: do not complaints for revolver side. At a distance of 15-20 meters deviation from the target center can be only to fault of shooter.
To remove the cartridge cases after the shooting when using the clip must use the extractor rod. If you use cartridges without the clip, putting them directly into the drum, the extraction cartridge case may either under its own weight, or manually.
One aspect that I found in the shooting test - this is a feature of cartridge case extraction from the clip. Must capture fingers for a lower part of cartridge case and an upper part and rotating it around the central axis to remove clip from the slot. If it's just a pull then it pretty hard.
Also an important point - for easy removal of the cartridge cases under its own weight is influenced by such factors as the ammo quality and purity of chambers drum. I couldn't remove cartridge cases by it’s own weight.
So, General impressions from revolvers ALFA Para Classic I have the most positive. I will not hide the fact that this revolver - the first combat revolver with which I am dealing with. Low line of the trunk has a positive effect on the balance of the revolver when shooting. I expected a lot more gun recoil than it actually turned out.
Questions of practical usage revolvers has both its fans and ardent opponents, but both are, to a greater or lesser degree, pays tribute to this type of weapon, its history and its contribution to the development of firearms in general.
To make their the conclusions and conduct your own practical shooting test revolvers ALFA Para Classic you may use the services of shooting-sports club "IBIS".
