Hello, I am Kateriin Rikken. I am a glass artist.
Here is my work. It got started in 2005,
when I was studying at Estonian Arts Academy that stood at the same space.
One of these swings was part of my graduation project.
I always had an idea that there should be more swings together.
They could be in a group, swinging alone.
They all have a story to tell,
that is created by a viewer.
When I had the possibility to create an exhibition here,
I thought that it is a good moment to make the idea happen.
I installed 7 swings here.
hey are here only for today, for the wind to play with them.
Each of them has its own rhythm, its movement, its life.
I want to pay attention to the empty space here,
that could be filled with creative souls again one day.
I wish this playground to be in use again.
I think that glass swings are tempting
- you want to sit on it,
but you do not dare, knowing that glass is a fragile material,
it could break.
This work has contrasts and
that there are no traces of someones hand, all of this is contrast
creating contradictory sensations.
I received many supportive words
that I would succeed, that the academy with this space would succeed
and that artists would succeed.
Here was one nice comment,
that this work does not need a story next to it.
It has a story of its own.
