Winning the award made me feel proud
and excited to be congratulated and receive recognition for my achievements
and it gave me enormous motivation to try harder in my life and with my studies.
When I found out that I won the award,
I immediately enrolled in a Certificate IV course in training and assessment,
which enabled me to land my dream job
at Swinburne working in the hospitality department.
When I finish my studies
I would like to grow in my role as a teacher,
and with my skills and my experience and my knowledge,
I'd like to share that positively and impact upon other people's lives,
whilst also creating a wonderful life for my son and for myself.
This is my first time doing university study
and this is my first time in Australia.
Coming to study in Australia, I've spent a lot of money,
and I think I have to make the most use of it
and do something to change my life.
I felt so happy when I got the scholarship,
especially when study fees each semester are such a lot,
and the scholarship has encouraged me to try my best.
In the future I want to become a successful entrepreneur
and help people around me to have the same success.
I spent the last 10 years travelling and working,
but I didn't really develop a strong sense of direction until I started studying.
Winning the award was quite important for me -
I've been through a lot personally this year and faced difficult circumstances.
But I managed to get high distinction by putting in a lot of hard work.
It's a challenge balancing things -
working part-time to pay all the bills
and still having enough time to put into your studies.
I imagine there are many other students going through difficult circumstances
and it would be a huge benefit to them
to be encouraged and supported by the Swinburne community.
