Here is the second diorama, this time the horse drawn leFH18 artillery.
I made this diorama the same way as i made the StuG III diorama, so this video will only deal with the creation of water.
I decided to build no bridge, because i wanted to add some houses aswell to depict a village, but it became very cramped.
In my opinion the model is the eye-catcher and the rest is only accessory.
I don´t like overloaded dioramas.
Instead i decided to make just a passage in the water, now we have to create some water.
I will use "Water effects" from Woodland Scenics, it is a sticky, viscous and white goop. It dries glossy and transparent.
Some might ask now why there is no basecoat so we can still see the wood and modelling clay.
I intend to paint the water so you won´t be able to see it afterwards.
The reason why i will paint the water: The horses and the carts stirred up the water, so the water isn´t clear anymore.
There the water will have a rather brownish and greenish colour.
I´m going to apply the first layer of Water effects. When it is dried we will paint it and apply another coat of water afterwards.
Our water could dry over night, it is quite solid.
At some spots it is transparent and on some other spots it is still white.
This is not a problem for us, because we will paint it anway.
For the stirred up water in the passage i will apply some brown and green colours.
The paint is dry, now we can apply another coat of Water effects.
This time it will be a thinner coat, so it will be transparent afterwards.
This stuff is really sticky, if you thin it down with some drips of water it is easier to apply it.
It is water-soluble, so adding some water helps to vary the consistency. It helps to create an even surface.
After the second coat had dried i created some stream with "Foam and Snow" from Vallejo.
Basically it is white paint, i thinned it down with some water
I don´t know, the result is not really satisfying, maybe i used it the wrong way.
I used it one time before and the result was rather unexceptional.
Maybe somebody knows how to use this stuff properly.
I will soon test how good the "snow" part will work, maybe this stuff works better, we will see.
However, i will keep experimenting with that water, i will apply some glossy clear varnish and another coat of water effects.
I will tell you later what i did with the diorama.
I applied another coat of water effects and on top you can see the glossy clear varnish, it is drying right now.
It should look okay when dried, i was able to create the tone i wanted to have.
It is definately not the perfect way to create some water,
but on the one hand i had the materials already at home and on the other hand it is quite handy for small areas of water.
If you want to do some fancy stuff or large water areas i definately can´t recommend the products i used here.
You should some transparent resin or something like that for such a project.
I have no experience with transparent resin though.
After the diorama has dried i will take some pictures of it in detail and will show them.
