The Horti Hood mini 180 degrees by Cave Innovations claims to be a lightweight, durable, and portable
alternative to a cloche or cold frame.
To give an idea of how portable the product is, the boxed weight of the Horti Hood mini
is a little under 3kg or around 7 pounds.
Its made from a combination of tough UV stabilised reinforced material, and fibre glass poles
that bend to create a strong rib like framework, to give the Horti Hood Mini it's distinctive
tent like shape.
The Horti Hood Mini box contains:
- The cover - Fibre Glass poles
- Tent Pegs - Guy ropes
- Two storage bags - And the instruction sheet
Given the relatively few number of parts, putting together the Horti Hood mini seems
pretty straightforward. The fibre glass poles that need to be joined together are connected
by elastic, meaning there is no need to work out which poles go with which.
It took me approximately 30 minutes to assemble. The most time consuming part is threading
the poles through the cover.
It would be easier to do this with a second person, one person could push the pole through,
and the second could guide the pole through the fabric. However, one person can manage
fine too.
Once inside the material, the ends of the poles are inserted into metal rings. This
takes a little effort to be bend them in, but is quite straightforward.
The Horti Hood Mini now looks like a little D shape. The next step is impressive. To assemble
the horti hood mini you only need to lift up and over the material.
When checking on crops, or for watering them, it is important to be able to get to them
easily. This looks exceptionally easy with the Horti Hood mini, as one side can simply
be lifted up and folded over.
Final thought? When placing the Horti Hood Mini on an allotment, or any exposed site,
using the supplied guide ropes and tent pegs are essential. The product is very light,
and if the sides are lifted by the wind, would be easily blown away.
