UVic offers grants that make studying a degree compatible with an internship in an enterprise
Now students can get workplace experience starting in their first academic year
Carla is a UVic student of Technology and Food Management
She has a "Sí-Sí" work and study grant in a scheme that UVic set up in Sep1ember
So she can study for her degree course while in paid employment in the sector
From Day 1 of her studies she is working too, in areas of her possible future professional career
Students undertake to pass at least four subjects and to work responsibly at their enterprise
They put into practice knowledge from their classes right from the start and all through their studies
I get professional experience, I improve my CV, and the grant helps me pay for my studies
These grants are beneficial for the enterprises taking part too
Noel Alimentària, where Carla is working, was the first enterprise to join the scheme
They help students specialise at the enterprise so as graduates they will already know it well first-hand
If a grant student goes on to become an employee the results are usually better
They have prior experience in the company unlike externally selected candidates
Various Catalan companies in different sectors have signed up to this scheme
UVic now offers these grants to students on six degree courses at the Polytechnic School
In the future the scheme may be extended to other degree courses
