Welcome to the Queensland Globe Tutorial Series.
In this video you will learn how to quickly find places in Queensland to explore the local information that is available.
By now you should have google earth installed and have the Queensland Globe KML file on your computer.
If not then have a look at Tutorial one to get started.
Now Queensland is a BIG Place, so the Queensland Globe provides you with many ways to find what you are looking for.
In the top left corner you will see a search box area. Here you will have four search options: Google, Qld Govt, Lot/Plan and Address.
The Google Option is great when dealing with business names. Lets try finding the Big Pineapple
Unfortunately, Google doesn't know about the more specific Queensland Government information.
This is where we can use the other search options to help with this.
For example, you can use the QLD government option and search a water bore reference number of 65666.
Or we can also try 8088...
This time we received multiple suggestions. Double click on one to take you to the location.
You can also click on the placemark to gather more information.
Now let’s load the CSG Globe and turn on water bores.
To do this, return to the QLD Globe Splash Page.
You may have to resize the layers pane to bring all the layers back into view. Click on the Coal Seam Gas Globe to load it.
From here we need to turn on the groundwater layer to view the additional information.
We can now click on the bore symbol to see the data. If you wish, feel free to click on the Bore report to get even more details.
Great! You can use Queensland Globe to find detailed government information.
Now, when dealing with land in Queenland you will find that the Lot on Plan,
from the property’s survey plan, is the most common unique identifier.
To quickly locate a property from its Lot/Plan key, click on the Lot/Plan search option and then enter the parcel you are looking for.
Please note that a lot plan search will only work with current parcels.
Therefore you will not be able to use the search to locate a historical lot on plan.
The final search option is by street address.
This is more accurate than Google’s search as it will convert the official address to the lot/plan to accurately locate the property.
Select the address option and enter an address to search.
Note that the system will use the official property address. This is usually the address on the local Council’s rates notice.
You'll find that address searching is actually quite flexible.
For example, if you only know the street and suburb, enter this to get a list of possible options.
Let’s scroll down and double click on number 15 Ann St from the Search Results.
You'll want to zoom into the property so that you can clearly view the symbols.
We can click on 15 and select the small information symbol to get more details.
You can also search with just a house number and street name if you're not sure about the suburb
Again you will get a list of options on the left. The map will also display markers for each option.
You can double click on either to zoom to that location. Let’s try the one in Malanda near Cairns.
Excellent! You have now learnt the four ways to quickly find a location in queensland using the search function.
The next tutorial will show you how to find more information at the locations you're interested in.
