This tutorial will help you learn how to check when items are due,
how to renew items, and how to manage holds using suspend or cancel functions.
This will enable you to ensure holds are not missed
and to avoid fines for overdue items. Let's get started.
You will need to log into your account from our website
WWW dot biblio Ottawa library .ca
Once you've logged in,
from the homepage, select the Checked Out link
under the 'My OPL' heading on the right hand-side of the page.
This will bring you to the list of items you currently have checked out.
On the left side-bar under the section labelled 'my OPL borrowing'
you will see a snapshot listing of what is overdue,
what your next due date is and the total number items checked out.
In the middle of the page under the section labelled
labelled "checked out" is a list of the first 10 items
you currently have borrowed.
The date the item is due and the number of times it has been renewed
is also displayed.
To renew an item select the checkbox next to the item you wish to renew.
Once you have chosen the item, select the Renew button
button either at the top or bottom of the list. If the renewal
is successful a message reading "Successfully renewed checked out item(s)"
will appear after a few seconds.
If the renewal is not successful
a different message will appear detail ing the reason why.
For example, the item may have holds placed by other customers
or you may have reached the maximum number of renewals
You can also manage your holds via your account.
You may wish to suspend a hold because you do not want to receive your hold
right away.
It is important to note that you cannot suspend holds that are already
in transit
or are ready for pickup. When you suspend a hold you will not lose your place in
the queue
To suspend a hold, log in and select "holds"
or, if you are already logged in, select "Holds" from the menu bar.
There are 4 tabs breaking your holds down by status:
"Active", "Suspended", "Expired"
and "Cancelled". By default
"Active" holds will display. Select the checkbox to the left of the item
information for the hold, or holds,
you wish to suspend.
Select the "Suspend" button
and two calendars will appear. One for the Suspension Start Date
and another for the Suspension End Date.
The Suspension start date will always default to the day after today's date
So for example, if it is August 21st
the earliest possible suspension start date is August 22nd.
Enter your desired start date, then select your desired
end date. Select the "Done" button.
A message will appear saying "Successfully suspended hold or holds".
The suspended hold will still appear in the active section
and will remain there until the suspension start date you selected.
You can also cancel hold if you no longer
need a specific title. Select the check box to the left
the item information for the hold or holds you wish to cancel.
Select the cancel button.
A message box will appear. Iit will say
Are you sure? You are about to cancel "Your Title".
You will lose your position in the queue. This cannot be undone".
Select the "Continue" button to cancel the hold.
After few seconds it will be cancelled.
It will no longer appear in the list of active holds. You can verify the
cancellation
by selecting the cancel tab and viewing it.
The title or titles should now display in your list of cancelled holds.
When you are done, select log out at the top right of the page.
Now that you know how to view checked out items, renew them, and manage your holds,
go ahead and explore further functionality available to you from
"My OPL"!
