I do believe there's an art to picking a good deep tissue massage therapist. There are a
lot of people out there that say that they're great deep tissue massage therapists. Then,
there are a lot of disappointed clients. So there's a couple of things that you want to
look into.
One, obviously, expertise is important. So not necessarily everyone that has been doing
this for a long time is excellent, either, but you want to take a look at their credentials.
Make sure they're licensed or certified, whichever is in your state. you might want to examine
how many hours they actually went to school. It sometimes make a difference.
At the end of it, I think what's really important is taking a look at what kind of information
do they provide you about what they do? Also what questions do they ask you? When you get
them on the phone for an interview, do they ask you about what you're looking for? Do
they talk to you about the area that you're experiencing discomfort with, how they're
going to treat it, and do they sound like they care?
Because at the core of every good deep tissue massage therapist is someone who has empathy
for people. You're really going to need that when you go looking for a deep tissue massage
therapist. All the skill in the world and all the knowledge of the muscles in the world,
it helps, but at the end of the day, I think a good deep tissue massage therapist is a
special breed of people.
In the team that I choose for my company, Massage L.A., I hand-select the people that
I choose, not only because they have really great hands-on ability and they are exceptional
at delivering great deep tissue, but I choose them for their big hearts.
