>>Narrator: Hello. Who's this?
>>James Massey (Associate Director of Freshman Admission): Hello. My name is James Massey.
I'm the associate director of freshman admission here
at the University of Maryland College Park.
I've been asked to share some advice with you about
the college search and selection process.
There's lots of things that come to mind.
Of course, we want to tell students think about time
management, think about the deadlines, get
yourself organized.
But when you're thinking about the college process,
one of the things that you have to hold true to is
who you are.
Ask yourself that question.
Where do I see myself for four years?
What kind of college campus would be good for me?
Don't think about the names.
Think about the place.
Another piece of advice that I would offer is
visit the college campus.
There's nothing like walking a college campus,
seeing the students, seeing the professors, and
really seeing what an average day on a college
campus looks like.
So let me tell you about how to get there.
What you need to do is make sure that you do not
miss those deadlines.
Deadlines are absolutely important to the college
application process, and they're absolutely
important to a successful completion of the college
application process.
Make a list, stick to your list, and make sure you
meet those deadlines for all the college
applications that you have on your list.
Another thing that's important is get
organized.
Create an Excel spreadsheet.
Create a list.
Last thing I want to share with you is to make sure
that you share your story.
The personal essay is a place that a lot of
students avoid sharing something personal.
By sharing something personal, you're inviting
the college reviewer to come in and learn more
about you, learn about your experience, learn
about your context, learn about what makes you you.
So don't be afraid to share, stay on top of your
deadlines, and make sure that you complete those
college applications.
So remember to visit the Getting into College
section of the website for Way2GoMaryland.
And also remember to visit with any college
admissions office.
Any of those admission counselors are always
there to help you.
So remember Way2GoMaryland, and go Terps.
