Tadasana, mountain pose. Mountain pose is the first pose in the series of the sun salutation
Surya Namascar. You may have seen some of these poses previously in some of the videos,
but we're going to repeat them. Starting in Tadasana, we want to set the soles of your
feet into the earth to create balance. And then we're going to work from the soles of
your feet into the ankles, into the knees, into your hips, into your shoulders, creating
length out the crown of your head. Then you're going to take the time to just breathe a little
bit, encouraging the breath to come to the bottom of your lungs, feeling the belly expand
and contract with every inhale. Shoulders descend, the spine ascends, and the appendicular
spine; your limbs, descends into the earth. There's an effort to lift your collarbones
up to meet the chin. From the back of your armpits you want to roll forward; up and into
the collarbones, creating space, stretching the intercostal muscles in your ribs, so there's
space for the breath to expand and contract.
