I apologise there is some probably slightly squeamish pictures in this talk, should of
said that at the beginning.
Yes!
We used twenty kilo adult pigs. Purely because that was about all I could lift - twenty kilos.
They, you know, they're heavy! And they're awkward, they're dead.
And then the later stages of decomposition when you start to get your degradation of
your tissue, start getting mummification, skeletonisation, and you kind of look just like a bit of a
mush and not much else.
And the reason why we use pig is because in Australia you're not allowed to use - people.
You're not! I asked!
And we also collected some flies and maggots as well - so that's what we're doing in that
picture. We're collecting flies. There's nothing glamorous about it, there's no fancy way of
doing it. You've actually just got to get out there and catch them. And when you think
about the fact that that fly has been landing on that dead pig and then it lands on you
- its pretty gross.
