Combat Athletics is new to San Francisco Rec and Parks, basically it's a class that involves
mixed martial arts. It goes over all the basics of the resistance based arts such as Brazilian
Jiu Jitsu, Moi Thai that is kickboxing from Thailand, American Wrestling, some Judo. The
goal of this class is to get young and old who have never taken any type of mixed martial
arts or resistance based arts and go over an introductory to all those types of arts.
We heavily stress fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals, because fundamentals are the
key to all those resistance based arts. We're not a fight club, we're not MMA gym, so basically
we want to give everyone, a taste of mixed martial arts from young to old, out of shape,
in shape , that's basically what Combat Athletics is for SF RPD.
The biggest difference between functional martial arts and mixed martial arts is that
an opponent's resistance. Without opponent's resistance, you don't have the proper timing,
proper technique, or proper distancing to execute a punch, kick, or a lock. Traditional
martial arts uses a lot of Kata, Rep Memorization and patterns. They're both great, it just
depends on what the athlete wants to do.
