We need to have a curriculum that's appropriate to Scotland
and OpenLearn gives us the opportunity to pull together
parts of the curriculum and present it as a Scottish product
and show that we are addressing the needs of Scottish students.
With the current climate in Scotland with an SNP administration,
a very new political agenda in Scotland,
a whole new cultural pride and confidence in being Scottish,
we need to have something now
to be able to demonstrate that we're meeting the needs in Scotland
and that we are part of the higher education system in Scotland
and that's where OpenLearn has been able to answer our needs rapidly.
We're very much hoping that OpenLearn Scotland
not only appeals to the Scottish population but also further afield
to people within the United Kingdom but also beyond that,
to the diaspora in the commonwealth countries and America and Canada
where there are large populations of people from a Scottish heritage.
We're hoping to link up with a Scottish government initiative
called Homecoming Scotland 2009
where the government is trying to encourage people
either to come back to Scotland as part of a large clan gathering
or just to rediscover their roots to learn more about Scottish heritage.
