Pole Vault: My concern for creating safer practical pole vaulting methods was ignited
when my son began pole vaulting in high school. That's when my husband and I discovered the
accepted standard coaching philosophy in pole vault is: “Take this pole, run with it as
fast as you can and don't be afraid of hurting yourself.”
We believed that there had to be alternatives to the cavalier, irresponsible attitudes that
endangered our son and countless others we observed badly attempting this event. Thus,
the Air Strike solution was born.
The Air Strike pole vault system incorporates the fact that it is by far safer and much
more intelligent for all athletes to properly progress by perfecting easy to practice increments
when participating in any overall high risk event.
One of the most perilous and ignored flaws with “traditional” pole vaulting is that
the event is judged strictly according to crossbar heights rather than the integrity
of the athletes’ form and execution of proper technique.
Sergei Bubka’s and Yelena Isinbayeva’s (world record holders today) coach, Vitaly
Petrov, had already invested years unsuccessfully attempting to accomplish the pole vault revelations
we achieved when we announced the Air Strike technique in 1992.
Coach Petrov’s theories of properly executed pole vault technique had simply remained unproven
until we succeeded at making Petrov’s dreams of higher, safer, easier pole vault a revolutionary
new reality in 1992.
Our Air Strike concept of running slow and striking low is one of many innovative steps
we apply as solid cornerstones to safer, higher, easier, consistent and controlled pole vaulting.
In 1992 we created our revolutionary Air Strike vaulting techniques based on the solutions
that we developed after experiencing firsthand ourselves a plethora of trials and tribulations
resulting from attempting dangerous “traditional” pole vaulting philosophies.
In our quest to prevent further senseless pole vault injuries and deaths, we clearly
demonstrate to you how and why Air Strike applies the vaulter's running speed and jumping
potential in controlled disciplined doses to produce safer, faster, easier, higher pole
vault results. Patience, precise articulation and proper monitoring are key factors in achieving
our goals.
