Some conversions require more
than one step, and the example of how many minutes are in a week is going to
illustrate this concept.
So let's start with 1 week,
and let's right that as 1 week
over 1, times, I want a conversion with
weeks in the denominator, and days
in the numerator. So 1 week
is 7 days, so we're not
to minutes yet. So my next conversion
is going to eliminate days, and to eliminate days
we're going to go to hours.
So 1 day is 24 hours,
times,
next thing we're going to eliminate is
hours. So hours, from hours I can get to
minutes. so 1 hour
is 60 minutes. So let's see how the units
are eliminated here. Weeks cancel,
days cancel, and
hours cancel, leaving me with minutes,
which is exactly what I want.
So then I multiply across in the top
7 times 24 times 60 minutes,
and the denominator
is just 1. Therefore,
if I multiple 7 times 24 times 60,
I get 10,080 minutes.
So my conversion
from 1 week to minutes
is that one week is 10,080 minutes.
