Hey guys what's up? This is Jacob at Double Wide Skate and Surf Shop in Hamstead, North
Carolina. Today we are going to talk about choosing the right trucks for you and your
skateboard. When choosing trucks the number one thing you want to pay attention to is
the width of the trucks. Trucks come in widths from 129 millimeters all the way up to 215
millimeters. You want to get a truck that is just as wide but not any wider than your
actual skateboard deck. Anyone at your local skate shop will be able to tell you the right
size truck for your deck. After you have picked the truck whether it be by the color, the
brand, the size or the style you want to pay close attention to the bushings inside of
the trucks. The bushings act like trucks and you will find them behind the king pin of
the trucks. When you lean left or right on your skateboard your bushings will help you
turn. The softer the bushing the harder you can turn the harder the bushing the less you
will be able to turn. Sometimes you might find the perfect set of trucks but not the
perfect set of bushings. Bushings are a cheap fix that you can get at your local skate shop.
Bushings are often color coordinated by the hardness, the harder the bushing the darker
the color. Any time you find a bushing that you like and you want to adjust how much or
how little you can turn you want to turn the king pin nut on the top of your truck. By
adjusting this nut and tightening it it will decrease your turning radius. By loosening
this nut it will increase your turning radius. These are pretty much the fundamental basics
for choosing and adjusting your trucks.
