the Strong Women program is designed to help individuals make appropriate
lifestyle changes to live long healthy lives it's affordable
fun and low-cost
the program focuses on strength training nutrition and exercise in a class
setting
we focus in on the woman
who's forty years of age or older
we spent five minutes getting everybody warmed up and there's a lot of
socializing that happens during warmup
we work through eight to ten exercises
dumbbells for the upper body
adjustable ankle weights for the lower body
we see who's increased their weight this week
and then when we get all done we have the reward of stretching out
for five minutes after that
individuals are educated on the effects of diet and exercise on bone health and
bone mass to prevent the onset of osteoporosis
as soon as you hit 30 you start losing bone mass so we need to do as
much as we can
to be healthier
so many of the women
have not been exercisers before
and they realize they don't have the strength they used to have
whole quality of life thing- i'm not sure how you put a
dollar value on that
but when you can get up and do what you want to do
in a day's time
because you're strong enough to do that
that just feels so good
participants experience increased muscle mass
increase strength
and improved bone density and it's making a difference
i feel revived
i feel like i've
got more energy i can do more things
improved my posture and i improved my balance
i'm great
and i owe it all to this exercise program
because it has given me movement
it has given me
a spiritualness we're a family
you feel so much better
and so much more capable and in charge of your health
and your wellness
