This video will show you how to search for, and request a book through OhioLINK
The book that I'm going to use as an example today
is called "What the Heck Are You Up To Mr. President"
by Kevin Mattson, an OU History professor
I recently saw Professor Mattson on the Colbert Report
talking about his book, and then found a review in the New York TImes
and so, I want to find out about this book.
What I would do, is go to the OU Libraries' home page
and do a title search
You could, of course, do any kind of search, but in this case, I already know the title
I'm going to enter part of the title
[typing]
I probably do not need the whole thing since this is a fairly unique title
and click "Search"
And I can see that the OU Libraries do actually own this book
but the status says that it's due October 1st
which means that it's checked out
What I would do in this case is I would go over to the right
and click the button that says "Search OhioLINK"
scrolling down...
Now I have the record for this book in OhioLINK
And I can see that 6 OhioLINK libraries have this item
I can click on that link to see which ones
What I want to look for is a book that has the status "AVAILABLE"
In this case, there is one at the Cuyahoga County Public Library
As long as there is one copy of the book with that status
in OhioLINK, you should be able to request a copy.
To request this book
I would need to click the link that says "REQUEST THIS ITEM"
Chose Ohio University
[clicks]
then enter my name...
my PID
which is the number from my ID card, without the P
[typing]
and then choose a pickup location
In this case, I'm going to choose Alden Library in Athens
Then click "Submit"
You could also choose any other OhioLINK library
if you were on vacation, or away from the OU campus
This book should come within about 3 to 5 business days
When it does, I should receive an email from the OU Libraries to let me know that it's in
And then, I could go to the 4th floor circulation desk with my ID to check it out
You can check OhioLINK books out for 3 weeks, with up to 4 renewals
If you have any trouble finding what you need
Remember to go back to the OU Libraries' home page
And use the "Ask a Librarian" services
