The Governor has been incredibly supportive of the work of the
Department of Public Health in general, but in particular
he's seen the value of the Mass In Motion program and the importance
of doing everything we can to encourage children
and adults to eat better and to be more active so that they're less likely
to be overweight and more likely to be in good health.
We are serious about blending the importance of great food with
great activity, and it turns out that
the fun of cooking and the fun of sharing food with others is something
that can be done in very healthy and healthful ways,
and that's what we're here to celebrate.
Sally Sampson and Chop Chop magazine has been a real voice for
healthy eating, healthy habits, among young people
and families for some time now and we have a partnership that we are
about to launch, where there is a Governor's page,
is that what we're calling it?
Sally Sampson: Right behind you.
Right behind... There it is, and I'm in it, I'll just have you know,
which we're going to do I think on a monthly basis.
A way of communicating with young people and their families about
practical ways in which you can enjoy cooking and
enjoy doing it in a way that is good for
your own health and your family's health.
Chop Chop is a non-profit, quarterly magazine that launched almost
two years ago as an antidote to childhood obesity.
While we know that obesity is a multi-layered and very complicated
problem, Chop Chop offers a simple and easily achievable solution.
Our message in a nutshell, "Cook real food at home with your family."
The more meals cooked at home, the better, but we think it's fine to
start with just one and that's what we're offering each month.
Today we are introducing Chop Chop Massachusetts, a two-page
monthly e-newsletter that will get blasted out all over the state.
Governor Patrick and our band of kids will put the finishing touches on
Cranberry Applesauce, our debut recipe.
It uses local produce and requires very little cooking equipment.
Please enjoy it, but be sure to go home
and make it with your own family.
Thank you.
