Hi! My name is Richard Reavis. I am co-owner of Black Jungle Terrarium Supply and on behalf
of expertvillage.com, I am here today discuss the supplementation and feeding of poison
dart frogs. Now that we have our feeder insects dusted, it is time to actually feed the animals.
You can tap the container to keep the fruit flies settled down to the side and generally
just sprinkle them into the terrarium where the frogs are. You want to limit the amount
of excess supplemental powder that you have in the container from going into the terrarium.
This just helps prevent excessive mold or fungus from growing in the terrarium. The
dart frogs typically find the food items very quickly and start eating. The amount that
is typically fed to the dart frog depends a lot on the species size and even the time
of year. Being cold blooded animals, during the summertime it can be more difficult to
keep good wait on a large species such as tanktorius or azureus. They will need more
frequent feedings and more food items at each feeding. With froglets, we definitely recommend
feeding at least once a day if not even twice a day simply because they can’t eat as much
in one sitting as adult frogs can. Adult animals that are healthy and have good fat reserve
can be fed even just 5 times a week depending on the food item. If you are feeding excessively
rich foods such as termites or wax worms, you may even wan t to feed even less, perhaps
only 3 times a week.
