I've been spending quite a lot of time with my Great Wall Steed. I'm sure you've already
seen my first drive video review on Team Wild TV. For those of you that haven't, why not?
We've seen that the Steed is a capable motorway performer. Solid on tracks and green roads.
And even coped well worth the sticky stuff we experienced in Hungary.
However there are a few of you that still question the Steed's off-road capabilities.
So we thought what better place to test the Steed's mettle than the home of the tough
stuff in South Africa.
We've just returned from hunting with the Nduna Hunting Safaris in South Africa's East
Cape and Great Wall South Africa generously offered me the use of a brand new Great Wall
Steed for our safari.
When you go to Africa hunting all of your equipment must be in good working order and
up to the task.
Africa is a continent that demands respect and is well known for chewing up and spitting
out poorly engineered vehicles.
The landscape is awash with the carcasses of the weary and ill maintained.
If the Steed can survive in Africa it will excel elsewhere.
And Nduna's landscape is made up of a wide variety of terrain, and the Steed lapped it up.
Ascending steep inclines, through dense bush, over rocky terrain and even crossing small
ravines.
This is a truck that's built to work and delivers on every level. Clearly it isn't an extreme
off road pick-up, but it doesn't profess to be.
Now we've had some suggestions from four wheel drive fanatics for want of a better description
that the Steed wouldn't cope to well with river crossings. Nor could you swing it across
a crevasse on its winch, but then could you really do that with any production pick-up
truck?
I'm a hunter and I love to test my abilities over challenging terrain in extreme environments.
The Great Wall Steed has seen its fair share of work over the past two weeks and has performed
flawlessly.
Once we'd harvested our animals we needed to get in to extract them. The Steed made
its way in to the most difficult spots and always came out the other side with its precious
cargo.
Whether you're in South Africa or in the UK the Great Wall Steed offers superb value for
money at 222,990 rand and £13,998 respectively.
Both offer a comprehensive three year warranty over 100,000km in South Africa or 60,000 miles
in the UK.
For more information on how to begin your Great Wall journey visit gwm.co.za or greatwallmotor.co.uk.
So if you're looking for a capable working vehicle with a high level of standard specification
that offers outstanding value for money, there really is only one wise choice.
