Title: Republican Mayor Opposes Georgia's Anti-Immigration Law.
Paul Bridges speaking: " I'm Paul Bridges and I'm the Mayor of Uvalda Georgia small
town southeast Georgia. Uvalda is a unique place because we primarily are agricultural
driven. We have a tremendous product called the Uvalda Onion. But we were constricted
with what we could produce because we didn't have the hands to make a product available.
And when the Latino community came in some years ago the Uvalda Onions just really became
world known. When the Latino community first started coming in they would meet someone
and fall in love and have families. So they became a part of our societal network. When
HB 87 the Georgia law was singed by the Governor there was a huge exit of Latino families.
Which included several Caucasians because they were also a part of that family. It is
a law that penalizes and punishes anyone associated with Latino population. Anyone driving and
undocumented in their car or not having a document in their home, are the ones who are
targeted by the HB 87. I am a Republican and I believe in the ideals of the Republican
Party. Everything about HB 87 is non Republican. And they title this bill Anti immigration
but they should have titled that bill Anti Business. They should have titled that bill,
lets grow the government. If we just accept the rhetoric that's being spewed by the radical
people and the hate mongers that think its good for Georgia. If you look at the details
of that law, if you look at what it does to the economy what it does to the social aspects
of our society, you will find that teh Anti immigration law is horrible. It's as bad as
any laws that Georgie has ever created."
