Joyce Luck from Black Hair Compass Presents..... How to achieve the perfect stretched afro..
without heat! Before we begin... if you missed last week's
video, click the video box and check it out.
I'm starting on freshly washed and conditioned hair. To help my hair retain moisture, I applied
an even coat of oil throughout all of my hair. Ensure that your hair is thoroughly detangled,
as this will be very helpful come the next day.
Pull all the hair of that section together and begin a bantu knot towards the top of
Be sure to keep the hair smooth and detangled as you form the knot.
As you twist your hair tighter and tighter you will feel it begin to naturally spiral
up. Work with that spiral to create a cinnamon bun shape, better known as the bantu knot.
Tuck the end at the bottom of the knot and be sure it is sturdy.
Notice that I positioned all of the bantu knots towards the top center of my head. Making
a Mohawk like formation will guarantee a full night's sleep undisturbed by the knots poking
out of your head.
The next morning, unravel the knot starting from the back first and gently run your fingers
through that section to separate the hair. Next, gently run a wide tooth comb through
the section. I don't usually suggest combing dry hair as it can be very painful and dangerous
to your hair but because we detangled the night before you should not come across any snags.
So now you know how I like to stretch my afro. What method do you use? Let me know in the comments section below.
To give your afro a better shape, use an afro pick to style it as you like.
