When deciding How to carry a baby and whats the best baby carrier there are loads of options
however todays review item is all about One.
Introducing BabyBjorns One. The hot new release from BabyBjorn that offers 3 Front
facing positions & 1 Back Baby Carring position. Never seen before in the BabyBjorn carrier
range is a carrier that is suitable for both front and back carrying and not only that
the front positions can be worn with baby facing in or looking out to the world.
The BabyBjorn baby carrier is designed to ensure long-lasting ergonomic carrying and
maximum comfort for you and your baby from newborn up to approximately three years or
a weight range from 3.5kgs to a maximum weight of 15kgs. The carrier has been developed
in consultation with pediatricians to provide correct support for your growing babies head,
back and hips.
The best way to really see it is to put it on. So regardless of how your going to carry
your baby or toddler in relation to position you always start in the same position by putting
the carrier on over your head and slipping on the shoulder straps. Now you have that
on you want to do a few things, you want to attache your waist belt which is not a buckle
style clip but more of a hook and bar that clicks in firmly. If you have enough excess
strap you can tuck the excess under the loops here for a neat finish.
then make sure the back yoke is positioned just under your shoulder blades to distribute
weight evenly across your shoulders and hips, you can just move the back yoke up and down
by sliding it up and down the shoulder straps here so its quite easy to do. And you can
tighten it by just pulling this strap across there.
So now lets just take a quick look at the inside here as your adjustments are quite
easy to do even when you have the carrier on. These two white labels here tell you
where the positions need to be. The top one confirms this is the newborn position, and
what you do to adjust for your newborn position is to undo the red zipper at the bottom here
and attach to the higher position under the mesh section here like so.
If your out and about and your wondering what weight is for what leg zipper and leg position
there is a convenient tag that is tucked away internally here to give you picture examples
of the correct carrying weights and positions.
Now we need to bring the front of the carrier up and clip up one safety buckle only. you
have another safety buckle on the other side and one on each shoulder.
These safety clips are a bit different to the other BabyBjorn clips as they are more
of a slide and click style with one button to push to release. The clips feel really
strong and secure yet the sliding action to do up the buckles without looking did take
me a bit to get use to.
Now something different with this carrier is actually seen here at the base of the carrier
and that is these two zippers which change the position of babies legs in relation to
hip placement so these are important.
The Baby Carrier One has 3 front facing positions and the bottom leg position zips change according
to those positions.
So lets show you the four positions and how to carry your baby.
You should always start in this position with one bottom safety buckle done up either side
works, whatever is more comfortable for you. We will call this the starting position.
Optimal Newborn Position: Start in your starting position as seen here with one safety buckle
done up. If you would like your baby higher up on your chest which you might prefer when
you have a newborn you can just lift the waist belt and tighten to have it sit higher on
your waist. make sure your leg zippers are open.
Pick up your newborn and have them facing you whilst sliding them down into the carrier
and placing their legs either side of the holes and make sure their arms are on either
side and fasten the safety buckles which are locked into place once you hear a click. make
sure you hold them at the right angle and Press inwards and pull backwards. Then fasten
the head support safety buckles on both sides.
Pull on these two straps to adjust the head support and if required tighten the shoulder
straps to take up any excess slack and fasten the leg straps on both sides for a child smaller
than 4.5kgs
for your inward-Facing Position: Start in your starting position again pick up your
4-36mth old and have them facing you whilst sliding them down into the carrier and placing
their legs on either side. Then fasten the safety buckles. As before making sure they
click into place. Fasten your head support safety buckles making sure they click into
place as well. And again just make adjust according to your
comfort to your head and back support here. From ages 4-15 months to a max weight of 12
kilos you can have the leg zippers open.
Outward-facing Option: Start in your starting position. make sure your leg zippers are
open Pick up your 5-15mth old facing out to the world and slide them down and into the
carrier placing legs on either side of the carrier. Then fasten the safety buckles which
are locked into place once you hear that confident click. And for forward facing we roll down
this front bit here as well so they can see out to the world.
So with the Back Cary position: you need to start in your normal position as you would
when your babies facing you and you have your zippers closed here. What your also need to
do is loosen off the shoulder straps here to give yourself a bit of slack. So you just
do that by lifting the outer edge of the buckles here and that releases them out.
Then slip your right arm upwards under the should strap and slip your left arm downwards
under the lower part of the shoulder strap. Lift your child from underneath and move them
around to your back under your lifted arm. Slide your shoulder straps back in place
making sure they are not twisted at all. Then lastly place the yoke here where it is
comfortable and just tighten the shoulder straps by pulling backwards and just make
those few adjustments.
Its also really easy to remove your sleeping baby just support baby and unfasten all safety
clips letting the front drape forward and transfer baby to bed.
All our testers really liked the closeness of this carrier and relaxed quickly in the
carrier as well. For Mum: I found the weight is very evenly distributed over your shoulders
and waist. I love how easy it is to use and I found it very comfortable when wearing
for those longer periods. I have a bad back so I found this carrier good for weight distribution
and it did not case me any back pain whilst wearing with my own larger, heavy tester.
Pros -the baby carrier one is easy to use, there
is no complicated straps or fixtures -height or age adjustments internally are
so easy -Suitable from birth, I love the fact you
don’t have to buy a newborn insert or any other accessories to use this from birth
-The back carry position, & its ease to transition flying solo.
-The new improved clips are secure -Sleek design, so good for Mums or daddy's
wardrobe.
Cons -The mech on the inside of the carrier that
goes across the chest means you cant breastfeed in the carrier.
-No onboard storage compartments for a few quick grab items like a pacifier or bib.
- and lastly the top weight range is 15 kgs as I mentioned earlier so if your kids are
taller or heavier this carrier might not last you as long.
