>> Well good morning and good afternoon ladies and gentlemen,
and thank you so very much for joining on us on our call today,
Senior Corps Virtual Conference 2013 SCP Answers and Discussion,
Work Plan Alignment and Volunteer Placement.
My name is Jeff, and I'll be your host for today's event,
which means I'll be in the back ground answering any general
or technical questions that do come in today.
Please type those questions below in the Q&A panel.
Make sure you send to all panelists, and we'll do our best
to answer those questions at the end of today's presentation.
We have a very large audience here today, and we just want
to say thank you for joining us.
We are going to be recording this session, and we do want
to let you know that this event is capped at 1,000 attendees.
So we do have a very large audience here today.
If you're not able to get into the event,
we will be having a on-demand recording
that will be available shortly after the event concludes.
Now if you would like to participate
in close-captioning, you may do so.
You will see on the lower right-hand corner
of the screen in the media viewer.
Just go ahead and type your name and your company name.
Just go ahead and click on submit there.
You'll start seeing the closed captioning take place.
Without further ado, it is my extreme privilege
to turn the call over to Zack Ryan [phonetic].
Zack, the call is yours.
>> Thank you.
Welcome everybody today.
The presenter for this session is Amy Daily, State Director
of Oregon for the corporation National and Community Service.
And so, I think we're ready to start.
So, Amy go ahead.
>> Well thanks you guys.
Thanks Jeff and Zack.
We just wanted to thank everyone for being
on board with us today.
And thank you for one of the over 1,850 registrants
for this Senior Corps Virtual Conference for 2013.
Last year, we had about 1,499, I think, specifically,
registrants, and we absolutely had every expectation we would
meet the same.
We're really excited and thrilled to see
that so many people really wanted to come back.
And to get a sense of what's happened since we first looked
at the performance measurement for Senior Corp last year.
So I just want to take a few minutes and apologize up front
for the issues that you've been experiencing
with accessing the e-course.
We, again, with 1,800 plus registrants,
we certainly put a large strain on the bandwidth and our folks
that were hosting the e-courses for us.
So part of the resolution was to have those e-courses converted
into on-demand sessions.
There still may be a slower ability to access them
at first based on the number of people.
But the beauty of having on-demand is just
like when you are when you're at home.
You're watching a good movie and somebody comes to the door,
you can stop it and go back to it later.
So we really do encourage you to not [inaudible]
about not being able to be where there is a live session or going
through the order that you put your agenda together
for the session for the next day and a half.
So don't worry about it.
We just want to make sure
that you have the information that you need.
That if you have questions, you can follow those up with us here
in the Q&A, or through the Senior Corp.,
the Senior Companion forum
which is underneath the forum tab on the main level.
And we have a good idea from the poll which Jeff put together
for us on the fly after we discovered the issues
this morning.
So thank you Jeff for doing this.
But we can see that more
of you have not seen the e-course than have.
So that's going to take a little bit of accommodation
to make sure that we can share this information.
Because this was really the discussion piece that comes
after you look through the e-course
and use the check your understanding piece
that accompanies it, so that you kind of get your hands
on the information and start thinking in terms
of what do you do to align your work plans
and find the unduplicated volunteer numbers.
And then also prioritizing your work plans.
So, I just wanted to point out where those are.
So the SCP overview and exercise for work plan alignment
and volunteer placement is now on demand,
and that's on the SCP classroom.
So you should be able to access that now.
And then the SCP check your understanding independent
activity is in the library under the resources tab.
And that should be available to you now
so that you could download it and save it
and then print it if you'd like.
But those things are good to have, just to have on hand now
and then to also use as you go throughout the conference.
As Jeff said, this session is being recorded,
and this will also be available on-demand for you,
we hope by the end of the day.
And accessible through the SCP classroom,
as well as in the library.
We will make the PowerPoint available to you.
And that is located under the resources tab.
So I wanted to point out before we go any further, once you get
into the on-demand session for the work plan alignment
and volunteer placement, there is an error in one of the links
for the worksheets that go along with the activity.
And we really do want you to use the worksheets that are
in the library because those are the most current.
So, if you're looking through the PowerPoint and you happen
to click on the, or through the on-demand session and you click
on that link, just know that those are not the worksheets
that we want you to use.
Those are actually in the SCP portion of the library.
And the link should be fixed when everything moves
to the knowledge network.
So we're going to move ahead and talk about the process
and make sure you have a greater understanding of how
to align the work plans, placement of volunteers,
and make everything fit into the requirements
for performance measurement into SCP.
So, we really do want to make sure that you have your access
to the check your understanding,
the work plan alignment volunteer placement
independent activity.
And if you can, make sure that you get that by the end
of the day, and you can send your questions
that you might have regarding any
of the activity to us via the forum.
And we will make every attempt to be able to answer you,
and then also to point you to your state office to be able
to deal with your programs specifically
if you have very detailed questions.
So, we're going to look at how comfortable you are
with aligning your work plans and placing your volunteers.
We'll probably just spend a little bit more time talking
about the work plans themselves, since many of you were not able
to able to go through the activity.
And then we're going to answer general questions
about performance measures.
There might be some new folks
to the senior companion program management.
And we can talk about the work plans or the procedures.
So we did have a prerequisite here that you needed
to have those pieces
of information already viewed or on hand.
But of course, we know that that wasn't available to you.
So we're just going to go ahead and walk through it with you.
So I wanted to just kind of run through a little bit more
about what the live session feature is,
so as far as responding real time,
we have this great polling feature.
We're going to be able to check to see
if you're actually grasping some of the concepts
that we're talking about
or if something needs further determination
that we need to spend time on.
And so when we get to the first poll, it will tell us kind
of what your general comfort level is with looking
at the senior companion program performance measurements.
And as Jeff did at the first one, he will open it
and then leave it open for about 30 seconds, and then close it up
and show us the results.
We're also going to have time at the end to review your questions
and provide as many answers as we can.
Zack is my partner-in-crime and moderating with me today,
and so he will be looking at those and prioritizing them,
kind of looking for any duplicates,
and then he will be making every attempt to answer as many
as he can within the time we're allotted for this live session.
And then we'll follow up afterward in the CT forum.
So we encourage you to have dialogue with each other.
We know that you can chat with each other in the environment,
so if you've have some questions that you've seen have come up,
either in the SCP forum or in the lounge chat, start talking
about that with either other.
And then if you have specific questions as they relate
to your program and you think they need further clarification,
please share those with us during this session.
Let's move forward.
So, I guess we're going to try out the polling feature again.
For those of you that did complete the check your
understanding work plan alignment
and volunteer placement independent activity,
did you understand it, and did you, did you, yes,
let's just go, if you completed it
and then if you understood it.
>> Amy I'd just like to let everybody know to go ahead
and click in that submit button.
That will make our, their response register a lot quicker.
And we'll go ahead and close the poll
and share the results in about 20 seconds.
>> Again I just want to say that if you didn't have a chance
to look at the course because of its not being available,
we don't want you to worry at all about this.
And, again, we appreciate your flexibility,
because we are going to spend the majority
of our time today socializing the alignment of the work plans,
calculating of the unduplicated volunteer numbers,
and completing the worksheets so that you have useable tools.
Or at least kind of giving you the idea of how those look.
So, I just want to make sure that folks understand
that we are, again, apologizing for the inconsistent reliability
of the system today
and appreciate your flexibility and patience.
So I'm hoping that the 72 percent
that did not complete is clearly an increase
from the first polling question,
because we now have 81 folks in our session.
So, as I said, we're going to move forward and just kind of go
through the process and talk through some of the work plans.
And then you'll be able to access the information on demand
that was not available this morning.
And then you can go in and get the check your understanding
at the same time.
Thank you Jeff.
So here's what we're going to do today.
We've already kind of recapped what we're going to do
in the beginning because of our changes we had to make.
But we are going to run through specifically this sort
of aligning of the work plans,
calculating the unduplicated volunteers,
and completing the worksheets.
And we hope to do all of that
within our provided time that we have.
Again, if you have questions, please note them in the Q&A box.
So, as we go through the activity for those
of you that's 28 percent
that actually did complete the activity,
I'm going to actually move ahead right now, because I want
to be able to show you what the Work Plan B, E,
and F looks like so that it would kind
of justify what the activity answers are showing us
in this slide.
So if you'll just bear with me for a second,
I do want to advance the slides and make sure you understand.
And we'll skip the polling question for just a few minutes.
This actually is the first work plan that is covered.
And it is about respite care.
And so you can see, if you've looked
through the performance measure instructions
for senior companion program, you know that it goes
under the issue area of human needs
and then the category is respite.
And that is actually part of the performance measures,
the focus areas for healthy futures.
And the way that you can determine how many
of these work plans are going to be in alignment
with a performance measurement requirements, you're looking
at the service activity.
So, this arrow kind of gives you the first sense
of what you are going to look
for within your existing work plans to see
if there are key words that really kind of grab you
and help you get the gist of what the activity is
that the volunteers are doing.
Again, thinking about not putting too many activities
into the service activity, kind of boiling it
down to what is the main thing that they actually do.
And in this work plan it shows you that respite services
with families with homebound elderly really is the key
of what the volunteers are doing most of the time
at their service stations.
And then the outcome is really
that the caregivers will experience a high level
of satisfaction with their time away from caregiving,
and it increases the quality of their lives.
So, this actually does relate to those H13
and H14 respite care measures.
And, it really helps you understand when you're looking
at the various activities that you have,
in whatever format you have them written in,
it will help you kind of grasp the two key pieces
of information that you know.
Is it aligned?
And then moving to the next part which is,
how would you count your volunteers for that?
So we'll move on to the next work plan, which is Work Plan E.
And looking at whether or not the service activity
that provides the companionship to insure the adults
with disabilities can remain in their homes to make sure
that that is actually a fit
with the national performance measures
for the senior companion program.
And you can see again by the arrows that it does.
And so the fit is there.
And it really does kind of support the major focus area.
So, it's practical and likely that you would be able
to gather data to support this being a fit
under the performance measurement requirements
as well.
And then we come to the Work Plan F. So when you get a chance
to look at these, we have to remember that this time,
this performance measurement requirement place that we're
in now is really a place in time.
Senior Core has been at the forefront
of putting the performance measures and what we used
to call programming for impact.
We've been doing it since 1996.
And so, throughout the years there has been several
iterations of what that looks like.
And in some cases, it may have involved some activities
that may have been what we called impact programming.
As the programs have evolved and the requirements for being able
to demonstrate the outcomes has really increased the
accountability and able to demonstrate
that it is reliable information and data that's being collected,
we've really had to draw the line in the sand
about what the intent of the legislation is for each
of the programs and in the regulations it's pretty clear
about what can and cannot be considered a volunteer station.
And so we're at the place again, the place in time,
where long-term care facilities or graduated care facilities,
nursing homes, they're not a fit any longer
for the senior companion program.
And it is really, although it is a very wonderful activity.
It's very meaningful for the volunteers
and I'm sure for the clients.
And for the folks that are supporting some of the clients
that are in the receiving services.
It really isn't what the senior companion program is about.
So, in this case,
this particular activity is not aligned.
And you'll see that there are ten senior companions assigned
to the three long-term care facilities.
And so this is one of those that's not aligned
and would require another look
to see how you can make this specific station
and work plan not be one that you would integrate further
into your programming and that you would not recruit more
volunteers to participate in.
So I'm going to back up for a second because I want
to make sure that we pick up where we left off.
So, again, just to recap the activities.
Work Plan D is actually aligned with the Outputs H13 and H14.
Work Plan E is aligned with Outputs H8 and Outcome H9
for independent living.
And then Work Plan F as we determined does not align
with respite care or independent living.
So, when looking at calculating the number of volunteers
and the unduplicated volunteers that we have,
I want to ask my partner-in-crime, Zack,
to join me in this part of the dialogue,
and we will take a look at the unduplicated volunteers section.
So we're on slide 17 now.
Zack.
>> So the first step in determining
where your unduplicated volunteers go is prioritizing
the work plans.
And so in this case, since we had D and E, which were aligned,
meaning that those activities fit
into the National Performance Measures,
we're going to prioritize those two over Work Plan F. So,
as Amy mentioned, the activities in Work Plan F do not fit
within the National Performance Measures.
It does not mean that you won't have a work plan.
So, if you review the senior companion requirements,
you'll note that ten percent of your volunteers,
your unduplicated volunteers, may actually be placed
in work plans that are activities
that are still allowed in the senior companion program
but do not fit the National Performance Measures.
So we don't, that work plan won't have a performance measure
as such, just a way to capture how many volunteers are serving
how many individuals.
So, a couple of things to consider in addition
to just whether or not the work plans align
with the National Performance Measures.
So we said D and E did align.
F did not.
So then how do we prioritize between D and E?
And a couple of things to keep in mind.
Number 1, what are the most pressing needs of the clients
in your program or of your community?
And basically you're deciding, in this case, respite
or independent living.
Or what we've gone back to actually calling aging in place
in this strategic plan.
So, the second thing, so is there a greater need
for respite, or is there a greater need
for aging in place services?
And the second is the mission of your organization,
or how do you want to present you impact?
Or what do you want the identity
of your particular project to be?
So, Amy can you go back to the names slide please?
So here we have Work Plan D, E, and F, and as I said,
we're basically trying to choose between D and E,
how we want to prioritize those.
There is not correct answer between D
and E. We use those two criteria that I talked
about on the previous slide to decide that.
For this activity, we've determined
that Work Plan D is actually going to be the priority
because either there's a greater need for respite services
or that's the identity that my project really has
or my sponsor wants to have.
So, basically we've listed all of the names
and each work plan where they appear.
And so if we look at the first line, Bruce, we see Bruce is
in Work Plan D, and also in F.
So what we've done is actually crossed Bruce off
of Work Plan F. And then we see that he still remains
in Work Plan D, so I know that's where I'm going to count Bruce
as an unduplicated volunteer.
As you'll see in the next session when we actually get
into e-grants, we do also ask you
for the number of total volunteers.
So I like the idea of crossing the name
out because then I can still see Bruce in Work Plan F
so that I can still count him as a total volunteer
when I get to that point.
So I simply go down the list, keeping in mind,
and it's convenient to have them D, E, and F this way
because we can simply go left to right in terms
of what the priority is for the work plan.
So wherever the person remains is not crossed off.
That's where we will count that person
as an unduplicated volunteer.
So then for Work Plan D, I simply count the total number
of people remaining in Work Plan D who have not been crossed off,
and that is my unduplicated volunteer count
for the work plan.
So, Amy, I'll turn it back over to you.
>> Well that's great.
And thanks for jumping in there Zack.
It gives folks another voice to listen to.
So as you can see, if you were doing the exercise,
you would see that the goal here is for you to have
at least 90 percent of unduplicated volunteers serving
in Work Plans D and E. And, part of the discussion
that you may have with your state office staff,
and also with your sponsor, is if you're a little heavier on,
let's say you have a Work Plan F, that's where you get
to have the dialogue with your sponsor about the mission fit
of the program, and then with the volunteers
that you're actually working with
and any targeted recruitment that you would like to do
to increase the numbers so that you can meet the 90 percent
in case you're not.
And to kind of bring that activity that is not aligned
to a place where it, just it,
through attrition it might not no longer be necessary
that you can work with that particular station
to access some other resources.
And that you're actually working together with your sponsor
and other people in the community to make sure
that those services are just not discontinued,
but they find a new home and some other folks
to provide the services to the beneficiaries.
So that's part of the effort with going through this.
And to the greater extent is
to really engage your sponsor in this dialogue.
As Zack mentioned, you want to make sure
that they understand what they're mission statement says.
And in the alignment piece that you're doing as far
as volunteer recruitment, you are gaining better buy
in from them as a supporting entity and the authorized entity
to support this program.
And you're also gaining more of the ability
to target your recruitment and your outreach efforts.
And ultimately what we would hope is
that you could leverage other community support
for the program that you are managing in your state.
So I'm just going to back up here to go make sure,
I want to do polling question 2.
Now that we've kind of introduced the work plans
and the unduplicated volunteer message that are recommended,
we're going to go ahead and open up the polling question 2 to see
where you would want to spend the rest of our time today.
So Jeff has opened that up if you don't mind going
into click one of A, B, C, or D, and then hit submit.
We'll keep it open for about 20 seconds after that.
[ Silence ]
Great. So it looks like aligning the work plans
and completing the worksheets are about neck-and-neck.
And that's fantastic because I think it would probably be great
to cover on the worksheets, because that is the part
that we didn't really get to.
And I think will be of most help to you as you get ready to go
to the session on entering into e-grants, because it's something
that you can use immediately to help you as you get ready
to do your grant renewal or continuation.
So I'm going to forward to, and I'm sorry
for having to move around.
In an ideal world, I wouldn't have to skip around.
So we're going to talk now about the worksheet.
And these are available for you again in the library
under the SCP portion for the, and the library.
And they are available for you to download.
Or they're also blanks for you to be able to use
for your own purposes.
So, here's what happens is if we're looking
at the corresponding work plan, you'll see that this essentially
when using in a different format to be able to get to all
of the questions that you need to have to be able
to determine how and what outcome, output and outcome,
and what the target is for the number of volunteer stations,
total number of volunteers, and the unduplicated volunteers.
So we pre-populated for you
in this one the service activities again
so that you have an idea of what is actually going
on within each of the work plans.
And if you see that you have different activities for each
of the pieces of the existing work plan, you're going
to create a new work plan.
And Zack's going to go over that
in more detail during the session and show you real time
in e-grants what that looks like.
But, you're, again in the past, we really kind of stayed away
from having multiple work plans.
What this new system does as far as being able
to measure one output to one outcome, it allows us to be able
to create more work plans but with more specificity
about what the service activity is based off of the need
and then how it aligns with the National Performance Measures.
So you should be careful to enter the number
of service activities that you have in the work plans
because you don't want to put too many things into one.
It's not going to allow you to do that.
And you won't be able to really get the data that is necessary
to be able to back up the targets
for your output and outcome piece.
So that's really the gist behind doing the worksheet so that
when you get ready to go into e-grants,
you can make the selection based on the worksheets,
and you'll also be able
to determine what you're percentages are
of unduplicated volunteers and the total number
of unduplicated volunteers
within your output and outcome pair.
So, this should give you a better sense of how
to manage this part of the process,
and you'll have an opportunity to do
that under the check your understanding piece.
Zack, do you have anything to add
to the completing the worksheet?
>> Just that when you look at service activities,
we know that a lot of volunteers may be doing,
providing both transportation and companionship.
And so a lot of people ask,
so how do I determine what to call it.
And, you know, it doesn't matter to us.
Again, it's about what do you want to report?
And what do you want the identity of your project to be?
And as Amy said, doing this way actually just gives us the
opportunity to provide a greater level of detail, for example,
you're not required to separate companionship from companionship
that you do through a VA hospital, for example
But there is that option here.
>> That's great.
Thanks Zack.
And so I think that once you have an opportunity to look
through all of the work plans and with your own eyes,
and then take a look at how the worksheets are broken
out to include all of those activities.
And then you start thinking about how,
what activities you have included
in the work plans that you have.
This will be able, it will afford you the opportunity
to think about again, what is it
that is the main priority for your agency?
Or what have you invested in as far as other resources
that you may have leveraged resources
from another community agency.
Another source of funds.
And then that would help you determine which way to go as far
as the number of work plans you would have
around this particular service activity.
So, I know that it's premature to ask
if there are more questions about the worksheets,
but I do want to get to this polling question and see
where is, if any questions, if there are questions
about when it's used, the purpose of it,
and then how to fill it out.
So if you don't mind clicking into the poll and choosing A, B,
or C and then hit submit, we'll close in about 20 seconds.
>> And while we're doing that, Amy, we do have a question.
Someone has asked if I have a volunteer
who serves clients in-home
but also serves a client in assisted living.
I can count that volunteer toward the 90 percent, correct?
And the answer is yes.
So if you have a volunteer who serves in a work plan
that does fit the National Performance Measures
in the 90 percent but also serves someone who doesn't fit
that has an unduplicated volunteer not only can you count
the person in the 90 percent, you should count
that person in the 90 percent.
Amy, is there anything you want to add to that?
>> I just want to, and that's a perfect answer, Zack.
I wanted to add that this isn't, this is not telling you
that you need to make your volunteers only do one activity.
That isn't the purpose.
But what we want you to do is determine
where you have your volunteers placed in the focus areas
that are in alignment with the Performance
Measure requirements.
And so we want you to be able to really count them
for the aligned work plan that supports the funding
that you receive from us and that is in line
with your sponsor's mission.
So, like you said, they might be doing, you might be doing three
or four things, but you want to be sure to count them
if they are really part of a Performance Measure work plan.
You want to make sure to count them there.
And not where they enjoy serving the most.
It's not, it's not that kind of an assignment.
You want to count them where you know
that you can collect the data to tell the story
of the impact of your program.
So, and, then brings you into the compliance part of working
with the corporation's Performance
Measure requirements.
So the question it looks like 63 percent of the people have is
when is the worksheet used.
Zack?
>> Sure. So the worksheet, can you hear me okay?
I was having a problem there for a minute.
>> Yes we can hear you.
>> Okay, great.
So the worksheet is not required.
What the worksheet is intended to do is to prepare you
to enter the information into e-grants.
We think of it as kind of when you're doing your taxes,
you don't simply sit down with the final sheet
that you're going to enter.
Well maybe now we do that we use software.
But, when we did paper taxes, you had the forms that you had
to fill out to prepare you to complete the final form.
And so if the e-grants Performance Measure System is
the final form, these worksheets are really just to prepare you
to enter it into e-grants.
And as I said, what we'll do
in the next session is take those worksheets
and actually enter the information into e-grants.
And I think it will be very clear once we do that.
>> Thanks Zack.
I wanted to give you the opportunity to answer
that because you are leading the next session.
And also, for those of you that are not in the renewal year
of your senior companion project,
you won't have this opportunity,
you wouldn't have had this opportunity yet.
So as you're thinking about what the number of work plans look
like that you have or if you haven't had an opportunity
to have the dialogue with your sponsor about the mission fit
and what the activities look like within your SCP program,
this would afford you the opportunity to fill these
out and, we're not, again, they're not required.
But I think it would help you be able to kind
of put some structure around what the activities are,
how they align with the corporation requirements,
and then it could move to the bigger picture dialogue
with your sponsor around, what would you like to see happen.
And thinking about how you could potentially leverage additional
support to help match for the project.
So that's, again, it's really just a tool.
And we used to have for the programming for impact,
we used to have sheets that did the same thing starting
with the need all the way
through the end outcome depending what iteration
of it we used.
So it's similar to that.
It's just put into an actual worksheet
that will then help you determine the number
of unduplicated volunteers and to align them
with your priority focused area work plans.
So, the next steps is the actual inserting these into e-grants
and to better prepare you to do this, we are going
to have Zack do a session on how this works going
into e-grants and, in real time, in the actual system of record
that you guys use as grantees.
So, our main goal in doing it this way as most
of you have heard this, but excuse the expression,
but really having the data will help support the align
performance measure, the cross senior core
and will help us enhance our ability
to tell the National Service story across the country.
And as you know, using e-grants, if we use it wisely
and we don't enter too much information in one place,
we will be able to extract the data that will help us tell
that story about what we're actually doing
to impact respite care across the country.
To look at what it means to have companionship.
What it is to have transportation then
to medical appointments.
And how, ultimately how does having a senior companion
contribute to people remaining independent
and in their homes longer.
So these are pieces of information that for years
that we have been trying to hone down into a set
of data that we can share.
And each year we go before the Congress
with our Congressional budget justification,
and as we move forward, as is the case
with every Federal agency, we've been asked
to demonstrate the accountability
and the reliability of the information that we give them.
This will do this for us.
And we ultimately feel like you can share this information
with your stakeholders and partners.
Then your sponsor will know the story, and you'll be able
to with great certainty talk about the results
that have been demonstrated.
So, that kind of brings us to just about quarter to the hour,
and I wanted to check in to see
if we had any more questions in the general Q&A.
>> We do not.
>> I do want to give a couple of minutes
to allow people to ask questions.
Is there anything else that you would like to see or talk more
about for the next few minutes?
And while folks are taking the opportunity to put
that into the Q&A, we just want to talk about some
of the best practices that can help you think about getting
through this process is to really think
about the volunteer placements that you have.
And look at how the need has been designed or was designed
at the time that program became your responsibility.
Look at the instruments that are used, and be sure to really kind
of have a handle on what the nature of the instruments are
that are currently being used to gather the data
and see how they can be improved
or use the recommended instruments.
Looking at the output target.
Making sure that it is a target as opposed to many targets
within one of the activities.
And then your outcomes to make sure
that they really do demonstrate what you're talking
about within the need and as part of the service activities.
Having dialogue with the volunteers and the stations,
we feel like we've increased our ability to reach out to sponsors
within the last five years or so.
And, part of that is that, you know,
as the authorized representative for these federal funds,
we know, and as the Inspector General talked
about this morning, the tone of the talk I think was one
of my favorite takeaways from her session.
This dialogue really does need to happen with your agency
and then as part of the trickle down support
that they provide you, gives you the opportunity
to really own what your project does.
And then take that out in engaging your volunteers
and patients and getting them excited about telling people
about the effectiveness and the importance
and transformational power
of having a senior companion project in their community.
And that helps you design your recruitment strategies as well
in thinking about the different kind of people that are retiring
and becoming eligible for the [inaudible] programs
and thinking about people even from other programs
or within AARP or RSVP or other programs
that may find themselves wanting to do something more that is
in more align with the background of SCP.
So thinking about what those recruitment strategies might
look like to increase your numbers,
and as well as your in-service that you provide
to your volunteers so that they remain actively engaged
and have the professional development that they need.
And then of course practicing just telling your story.
We know that most of you are quite inept
at sharing information and getting articles in the paper.
I really feel like you are the best cheerleaders
and the best support and recruits that we have
for these programs moving forward.
And undoubtedly, you are the people with your feet
on the ground and your ears know exactly what's going
on in your community.
So, it is important that you keep your state office informed
about what's happening and improvements that you're making
and effective strategies that you're finding that work
in your community so that those can be shared nationally
and in our respective states.
>> So Amy, we do have a couple of questions.
>> Let's do them.
>> The first is where someone is having trouble printing the
PowerPoint presentation.
So, I'm going to answer that by saying we will look
into what the issue might be there and get back to you.
The second question is where do we find these worksheets?
>> These worksheets are in the library,
and when you open the library under the resources tab,
you will see that the senior companion program is the first
one that you can select on the left-hand side
and the worksheets are in, they may be the top ones.
But they may have been moved around.
So they are in the library under the senior companion area.
>> And those I believe will be the completed worksheets.
The blank worksheets you can find.
>> [Inaudible] test your understanding.
>> Yes, they're in the test your understanding activity,
pages 11, 12 and 13.
>> That's called SCP check your understanding
independent activity.
And that is, that's where you'll find the blank worksheets.
Were there any other questions Zack?
>> Nope, those are all the questions.
>> Well I don't, I don't have anything else that kind of pops
up as urgent to take immediate questions or keep you longer.
So I think what we'll do is check in with Jeff to see
if you have any, has there been anything form our close
captioned that needs to be shared?
>> Nothing here that needs to be shared, no.
>> Okay. Zack do you have anything else
that you would like to share?
>> No, I just follow up with the next session
which is the entering your information to e-grants,
and if you have the work plans from your activity
that we just mentioned, along with the worksheets.
I think those will be helpful materials for you
to have during that session.
>> Alright, and you can save those when you're looking
in the library, you can save those to your desktop
so you can have those on hand, and we will get an answer
for you about the printing.
But in the meantime, you're able to use those and also save them
to your desktop so that you can have them
for the e-grant session.
And I just want to thank everybody again
for your patience and flexibility
and the tremendous support that you provide
to the Senior Companion Program and making it one
of the most successful that we have at the corporation.
So thank you for your time, and we look forward to hearing
from you after the sessions and don't forget
to take your post-session survey.
Thank you very much.
