Yeah!
You want to play Park Ranger with Elmo and Murray?
Great! Come on!
Come on!
Oh! Say hello to Ranger Shalini
from the Gateway National Recreation Area.
-Hi! -Hi!
So what is Ranger Elmo going to learn about today,
Ranger Shalini?
Today we're learning about changing...
Socks. It is very important for a Ranger
to change his or her socks,
right Ranger Shalini?
It is, but I was going to say changing seasons.
Elmo knows about the seasons;
there is winter, spring, summer, and fall.
Good job Elmo!
And right now it's spring,
and spring brings lots of changes to a Park
that we can observe using our senses.
Like what Ranger Shalini?
Well, you can feel the weather getting warmer.
You can see in here ice starting to melt,
and you can smell the new flowers start to grow.
Also, when seasons change,
you can see in here lots of animals as they migrate.
Oh, migraine, that's a really bad headache.
Booyah!
Ranger Murray knows his stuff.
Oh boy!
Actually, you're thinking of a migraine, Murray.
Then I think take back my booyah.
I have no idea what migrating is?
That's okay.
Migrating is when animals move
because the seasons change.
Oh, wow!
Well, Elmo wishes he could see
some migration right now.
Me too!
You can.
Let's use our binocular to see the migrating animals
that visit Gateway during the seasons.
Great idea!
In the winter [inaudible] migrate into Gateway.
Here comes a group right now
and they're ready for landing.
Tree swallows migrate or travel to Gateway
every spring because they like warm weather.
They fly in a zigzag pattern
and catch insects for food like mosquitoes.
By the end of the summer
the butterflies that were born in Gateway
begin their journey of migration.
Wow!
I never knew animals moved around so much.
Elmo neither.
Ranger Shalini, do animals migrate
in Elmo's Park during the spring?
They do.
Come on, let's use our senses to observe
the animals migrating right here in our Park.
Great idea!
Come on!
Wow!
This is a red-winged blackbird.
They fly south for the winter
and return to your Park in the spring.
Another bird that migrates into your Park
in the spring is the glossy ibis.
It uses its long beak to feel for food in the mud.
Come on, be like a Ranger, get outside
and use your senses to observe the seasons
and animals that are migrating.
Yeah! See you outside on Sesame Street.
And at the Park.
Peace!
-Bye, bye! -Bye!
