Having information about research gives you the power to decide if and how you
want to be involved.
Registering with ResearchMatch is an easy way to get information about
research studies
that are looking for volunteers.
Registering does not commit you to volunteering for any particular study.
It just creates a connection,
so you can hear more about studies for which you might be eligible.
If you have access to the internet, the first step is to visit
participate.ucsd.edu on the web.
There, you will find a link to the ResearchMatch website, as well as links
to other sites with information about research studies.
Clicking on the ResearchMatch link will take you to the ResearchMatch
website.
Once you are ready, find and click the 'Register Now' button.
On this page, you will see the four steps you can follow to register.
You will be asked whether you are registering yourself or someone else,
your age, and how you learned about ResearchMatch.
Once you click the 'Next' button,
you will be asked to read and accept the volunteer agreement.
The volunteer agreement describes the ResearchMatch web site and how it is used.
You will have the option to print this document so that you keep a copy.
Registration takes about five to ten minutes.
You will be asked to provide some demographic information about yourself such as your age and sex,
health information such as your medical conditions and medications,
and contact information such as your email address.
The website has a built-in feature to make entering your health information
easy.
The site is protected, so your privacy and health information are secure.
Once you've finished entering your information, you log off and let the
program do the work. ResearchMatch will send you a short description of a study
you may be eligible for by email.
This email will ask you if you want to learn more. If you click 'yes', then Research
Match will release your contact information on to the researcher,
who will get in touch with you.
If you click 'no',
ResearchMatch will notify the researcher that you're not interested, and
your contact information will remain private.
Whether or not you decide to participate in a study,
you will remain active on ResearchMatch until you
deactivate your account.
So you will continue to be matched to other studies in the future.
If you keep your contact information
and health status up to date, you will be sure to get the matches
that are most useful to you.
