This video will provide you with an
overview of the function of the clutch and how it works,
how to change gears up and down in a manual vehicle
and will explain the benefits of changing gears
in an automatic vehicle
cars with a manual gearbox have a clutch. The clutch pedal
is the link between the vehicle's engine and its gearbox
in a manual transmission vehicle you'll need to change gears so you can smoothly
increase or decrease speed. As a rough guide
you'll have to change up a gear every 20 kilometers per
hour or so. It's a good idea to first familiarize yourself with changing
up and down through the vehicle's gears while the car
is stopped. You should use the vehicles clutch for each gear change
the basic method for changing gears while moving
is push the clutch pedal in
ease pressure on the accelerator
change the gear, release the clutch
and increase pressure on the accelerator. In order for the gear changes to be
smooth
your clutch and accelerator inputs will have to be controlled smoothly
using the vehicle's gears in conjunction with the vehicle's brakes when slowing
down
will help you have full control over the vehicle speed
when you brake, you'll hear the vehicle's revs per minute
drop. You should push the clutch pedal in
change down a gear and then while still breaking
release the clutch pedal
it's important that you release the clutch pedal quickly while braking
because this will help you avoid
allowing the vehicle to freewheel which may cause its speed to increase
due to a lack of engine braking. While
automatic vehicles do not require you to change gears in order to drive the
vehicle
you are able to utilize the gears to reduce the strain
on the vehicle's engine and brakes. Once you've mastered smooth gear changing
and have an excellent control over your vehicle's speed
you'll be able to move out into the traffic and expand upon your skills
in more challenging environments. So stay safe
and happy driving
