G'day everyone. This is Daniel O'Grady with another Wasabicars
video. I hope you are doing great
It's Friday afternoon here in Japan. I finished the week. It was quite a busy week.
Apologies for the low production values of this video.
I just wanted to do a quick, spontaneous video because I was digging through my old photos.
And, I'm talking really old photos. Wasabicars goes back to January 2012.
But, I found some photos from 2004. Me & my wife's cousin, we went to the Japan
GT Championship, Round 6 in 2004. It was in October.
It was a pretty good day. It was a day of lots of firsts for me.
I didn't really have an interest in motor racing.
I don't really have much of an interest in motor racing generally.
But, Australian cars , V8 Supercars, and the current "car-of-the -future" I do like, but
it ws a great day. And, this was the day.
This was the first time I had ever seen a Hakosuka.
"Hakosuka" Skyline, and my wife's cousin. just a quick thing about my wife's cousin.
He actually passed away a couple of years ago.
He was a pretty cool guy because he took it upon himself to help me settle in to Japan.
He took me to the baseball. I didn't know jack. I didn't care.
And, he took me to this event. It was pretty cool.
He was a top guy. When I saw this hakosuka, I said, What is
it? He was pretty sure it was not a genuine GT-R.
Whatever, anyway. The first Hakosuka I had ever seen.
Another Skyline at this event in the car-park was this M-spec R34.
It's a bit of a special one. What does the M stand for?
Is it Mizuno? The director, or the head of design, or something.
It's named after the guy and there's some extra Kevlar... rear spoiler.
And, it's got updated, modified suspension, and a few little things like that.
Anyway, an M-spec. That was pretty cool. And, finally. Another car we saw was this...
You know. The updated... R35?
I don't notice new cars, guys. You know that, right?
There's a Nismo sticker on it. That would have been new I think back in 2004.
It was the frst time I'd seen one. So, I got some snaps. There you go.
Other than that, we were just watching the racing... the car driving past.
It was a 300 km race. And, the video images that I have, have no sound.
So, apologies for that. Very short clips. Apologies for that.
And, it's blurry. It's lame. Apologies for that.
But, it was a good day. A memorable thing was we were in the pits
area, and there was one of those "race-queens". Grid-girls, or whatever you call them.
Anyway, I was taking a photo of this one here and Tatsuya said, I'll take a photo for you.
So, I wandered over there and posed with this lady. And, he was trying to snap a picture
and unfortunately it was set to movie, so he was having no luck.
He had two goes. We were scratching our heads. We walked away and later I figured it out
after I'd looked at what had happened. We never went back. Too embarrassed.
Anyway, it was a good day. Oh, this was the first time I had ever heard of drifting.
Oops. The first time I had ever seen drifting. I think they were going ... They approached
from the opposite direction of the regular race cars.
I saw them zigging and zagging and I thought, What's the purpose of this?
If it's a race... But, anyway. I now get it. It's different, right?
It was the first time I'd seen drifting. The first time to see a Hakosuka.
The first time... ... ... ... to not have my photo taken with a race-queen.
Okay, guys. I just wanted to share that with you, in memory of Tatsuya.
Top guy. Thank you very much everyone.
I hope you are going to have a good weekend. I'm certainly going to do my best.
Take it easy. See you.
