While the two Koreas were conducting inter-Korean family reunions, a North Korean military patrol
ship crossed the maritime border in the West Sea three times... between just before 11
p.m. Monday night and 3 a.m. Tuesday morning. But there were no skirmishes between the countries.
South Korea's Defense Ministry said Tuesday that the North Korean vessel crossed the Northern
Limit Line, the de facto maritime border between the two Koreas, going three-point-five kilometers
over the border on three different occasions. The boat crossed near Yeonpyeong Island, which
was the site of a deadly shelling by the North in 2010.
The South Korean military sent high speed patrol boats to the area... after warnings
it issued were ignored by the North. The boat turned back at around two thirty
this morning. The ministry says that it is highly likely
that the North sent the boat to the area on purpose, since it ignored warnings and lingered
in the area for a long time.
