Hi. My name is Sarah.
And that's me walking home with Martin. My three year old boy.
I just picked him up from his playgroup.
I used to work as a nurse
but I can't do that anymore
because of my operation.
Today I came home to find my old washing machine had finally broken for good
and leaked water all
over my flat.
I couldn't get credit to buy a new one and was already struggling with money.
I worked out it would take six months to save up the £250 to buy a new one.
I didn't know what to do.
My friend Clare came over and told me about a new website.
turn2us.org.uk
She said it offered free information on help and advice about money to
anyone who was in trouble.
It couldn't hurt to try
and I had nowhere else to turn.
So I went to the library to use the internet.
The site was easy to use and I quickly found I could get more help from disability
benefits.
It even told me about money from charities including one that could help me because I used to be nurse.
I could even email and apply for money to the charities from the website.
I applied for a grant and six weeks later I got the money to buy a new washing manchine.
Day to day life is still difficult for me
but I feel better now that I have somewhere to turn
if I need help with money.
