We have to admit that we’ve been quite successful.
We lost contact due to two
rain squalls a few days ago,
and then we managed to make up our lost ground,
thanks to the squalls this time.
That’s the thing about squalls.
They have one side with wind
and one side without wind.
We managed to handle the squall well
and stay on the side where there was wind
and closed on the leaders,
even with a bit less air.
There’s a cargo ship to windward there.
We’re going faster than him.
We’re hitting the most complicated section
of the Straits of Malacca now,
where it becomes narrow.
It becomes very tight and
there’s the famous motorway here too,
which all the cargo ships take,
some of which we can see around us.
The further along it we get,
the deeper within its clutches we’ll be,
and that’s one of the dangers of sailing in this area.
There’s also a huge amount of debris floating
in the water and this afternoon
we spent our time weaving between tree trunks
and bits of plastic.
