It’s important that the citizens of England try to understand what is happening in Latin America. Especially in Venezuela.
There is a peaceful, constitutional revolution, for which the people have had the opportunity to show their support 15 times through the popular, secret and direct votes of the great majority.
The right-wing accuse Chavez of being a dictator, of violating human rights, of thousands of acts of terrorism.
We invite you to come to Venezuela. Here no press has been closed, as occurs in other parts of the liberal democratic world.
Here there are no political prisoners in gaols.
Here there is complete freedom of expression, that freedom is even abused to offend the constitution and the President.
Things happen here that would not be permitted in England. Nor in the United States, nor anywhere in Europe.
It is a democracy of broad powers, especially respect for human rights and the constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
Why has Chavez stood out? He has been the best interpreter of the great majority in the last 150 years of the Republic.
Hugo Chavez has put oil at the service of the poor with health, education, security, inclusion, housing
and fundamentally, Chavez has bought dignity to a people who were subjugated to the mandate and interference of the US government.
Today, after 150 years, we have recovered our independence, sovereignty, freedom, our self-determination as a people
and importantly, the development and inclusion of the majority. It may be hard from England or Europe to understand the processes underway in Latin America.
They are sometimes seen from the European perspective. But it is important that you come to Venezuela
and speak to the men, women and children. Go to the popular sectors that were forgotten for many years of representative democracy.
Listen to the people, who were abandoned, persecuted, vilified, humiliated, mocked, defiled many times.
Finally our people - who the bourgeoisie refer to as the toothless or shoeless - the worn out, black people, these are now the powers in our country
because we got a man like Hugo Chavez, who is the best interpretation of our people. Within a few days we will be in an electoral process
and we return to the same confrontation between the right, who want to return to the past and those of us who defend Bolivarian socialism.
Socialism of the 21st century. We have no doubt that this people will reaffirm an overwhelming victory on 7 October.
We only hope that there in the old Europe they understand that Latin America has taken a progressive path, the path of development
path of freedom, of self-determination. Peacefully, freely, with respect for human rights and strictly constitutional.
Long live the free men and women of old England in Europe.
