Welcome to Cal Poly Pomona, I'm President Michael Ortiz and we're going green!
What does that mean, it means that Cal Poly Pomona is taking a stand on global
warming by starting by addressing its own impact on the environment.
A comprehensive plan is being developed to assess and reduce the university's
greenhouse gas emissions in order to become climate neutral. Let's take a look
When we talk about Cal Poly taking action, this just about just a couple
at what we're right doing now
of people. We're talking about a whole lot more
It takes the collective action of everyone to make a difference
So let's get moving! We've started with something simple, yet effective, what
we call Recyclemania. A campus wide initiative to keep bottles, cans, paper,
and other recyclable materials out of the trash and putting them back into the
system. But waste isn't our only concern
so is our energy use, and we're trying to make big cuts by switching to Compact
Florescent blubs or CFLs. You may just see them as the 'squiggly' light bulbs,
but after replacing more and more of our old light blubs Cal Poly is seeing a
big change! In addition to electrical loads, Cal Poly has its sights on transportation
We've improved connections with local public transportation to provide easier
access to the Metrolink. We also encourage the use of buses,
vanpools, carpools, and other forms of public transportation through our
rideshare office. We're also getting people off the roads all together with
increased local housing and encouraging more people to take use of the human
engine by biking or walking to campus
and we've only brushed the tip of the iceberg
Cal Poly is identifying the new opportunities to make a difference
Cal Poly has a national presence in the fight for a greener future with the
John T Center for Regenerative Studies.
Hi, welcome to the Lyle Center, I'm Dr. Kyle Brown. The Lyle Center's mission
is to help create a sustainable world. We've done this by finding new and
innovative solutions to tackle this Global issue. And in the process have been
a valuable resource to Cal Poly Pomona. The Lyle Center will continue to
research innovative technologies and resource management for a sustainable
future
I'm glad you got to see what Cal Poly Pomona is doing to go green but stay tuned in,
because we have a lot more in store for our campus and our planets future!
