Hey, guys! Good evening!
I know there's a lot of excitement about what we at World Beyond Rx have in store for you!
Jason and I were talking about how it wouldn't be fair for us
to start teaching movements and overload you with information
before we even talk about one of the most important parts of CrossFit.
Choosing YOUR Box.
CrossFit gyms are generally called boxes. They are very bare-bones and look like.. boxes.
So, maybe there might be a LOT of options where you live.
If they're all close by... How would you choose which one to attend?
If there's only one... well, your choice is easier, but for the majority of us, there are a good number of gyms locally.
So, HOW SHOULD YOU PICK A BOX?
I'll talk about a few things you should consider
First off is QUALITY.
How much time and instruction will you get
with how many coaches? How many staff are there per class?
Are they good? Do the coaches have the right kind of credentials?
How many years of experience do they have?
It shouldn't matter how new or old the gym is, as long the coaches know what they're doing.
So that's quality.
Second is QUANTITY.
How many times can you go to your classes for the money you're spending?
Some gyms may be expensive. Others are cheap.
You have to figure out that balancing act. What do you want/need?
If you can find a gym that's affordable with world-class instruction, you've hit the jackpot!
But in all reality, you want to figure out what you'll be paying for how often you go.
CrossFit can be expensive. But it's so worth it in my view. You know personal trainers?
One or two sessions with a personal trainer can cost $150. For maybe only two hours of your time.
You'll be spending all that money... While with CrossFit, if you go maybe two times a week.. That'll make 8 times a month,
you probably will only need to pay the same amount. 2 with a PT and 8 in a box...
CrossFit is small-group instruction, which means there are usually 5-10 clients with one coach.
You get truly personal training and instruction. To me, it really is worth it.
There are a few other things I want to touch upon.
How far is the box from your home or your work?
You want to know your workout schedule and how you will plan your trip out.
For example, I wake up early in the mornings, go to the gym just 7 minutes away, and after I workout, shower and go straight to work.
If my box was a little further out of my way, it might not be the best decision for me.
It doesn't work with my schedule.
Reputation is something else to consider.
Some gyms have the reputation for being the best.
It's because they produce the best athletes.
You've got to think about whether that is important to you.
I know there's a lot more I could talk about, but really, the most important thing for you has to be
When you enter a box, HOW do you feel?
Are the people warm and welcoming? Do you make connections?
Talk to the owner if you can. Talk to the coaches.
Do you feel comfortable around them? Drop in for a workout.
How do the other people in the class make you feel? Do you feel at home?
That's really what you're looking for. That's what it really should feel like.
Why would you put your blood, sweat, and tears in a box you feel indifferent about?
My CrossFit family are some of the people I care the most about, and I know others can say the same about their "families".
That's the right kind of environment you will grow as a person in.
So, I think that's absolutely the number one thing you should look at before all the other factors.
Once that's set, then go for it!
That's my advice for all of you looking for a box to join. Thank you!
