I’m Matthew Tomkinson and I’m the lead Game Designer on Just Dance
you really get the impression
that Kinect was designed with dance games in mind
it really is the ideal platform
with Kinect it was really important
to have two modes: a mode for just the top half of the body
and another more complete mode where the whole body is analysed
for those who just want to have fun with an experience much like the one
offered by the Wii they can have that
but at the same time if you want to do a whole dance
and feel like your entire body’s movements are being taken into account
that’s possible too it’s great to have
that choice with the Kinect.
Sometimes you’re tempted to go beyond
what you’re given onscreen and say
“I don’t want to be restricted, I want to do my own movements
on this section, I’d like to do this.”
Just Create on the Kinect version allows you to do that
sometimes during a short passage you can create your own movements
and someone else will have to dance following the steps you’ve created
at other times - once you’ve really got the hang of the game
and you’re feeling inspired -
you can do a whole song, create your own dance
and send it to your friends so they can download it
and dance to it it’s a really interesting new step
when we started Just Dance, dance games were a bit like this...
My name is Mehdi Kerkouche I’m 25 years old and I’m a professional dancer and choreographer
when we started creating our dances
we tried to see how the player could get
the maximum amount of points for each movement we were creating
so each movement might be a little bigger
if we go down low, we might bend the legs even more than usual
or for a high movement we might jump…
each track, each dance has a different setting
you might find yourself dancing
at the North Pole in front of an igloo
or with a crazy shaman
or in girl’s bedroom
it’s amazing
you get a lot of fun out of it
and even more when you dance with your friends
that’s why I love dancing with Just Dance!
