My name is Kelly Lineback. I'm from Overland Park, Kansas.
I've been coming to Honduras for 4 years to run a dental clinic.
My friend Diana Dempkey owns a home on the island.
And she told me of the need for dental care,
so my family and I decided we'd offer our services.
The first year there were only seven of us:
myself, my three girls, my husband, Diana, and her son.
We're the ones who primarily worked in the clinic.
So here we come back four years later,
and it's really nice to have 27 of us total, including
5 dentists, 2 hygienists, and a lot of help to run the clinic.
The patients we see are from all over the island.
We see a lot of the branch members here.
We love them because we get to know them on return visits.
We can track their dental treatment the best.
We often see taxis dropping off people who've heard of us.
We'll see about 600 patients this year,
which is the most we've seen as this clinic has grown.
We had a teenage girl come in
who was embarrassed about her smile.
She had lots of decay between her front teeth.
She'd put her hand up to block her mouth
every time she talked or smiled.
After we did her dental work, we told her she looked beautiful
and tried to get her to smile.
And every time, she'd reach her hand up, blocking her mouth.
We explained, "You have a beautiful smile.
You don't need to cover it anymore."
Once she saw how beautiful she looked,
she realized she didn't need to hide her smile anymore.
This experience with running the dental clinic
has changed me in many ways.
It's made me appreciate the things I have.
It's been so nice to bring my family with me.
My daughters can better understand people,
especially those who may not have as many things.
It's humbled them; it's humbled all of us.
My name is Kelly Lineback. I run a free dental clinic
in Honduras, and I'm a Mormon.
